About
To make reservations, please visit us on Open Table! Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Features unique to New England were the foundation - Ipswich Belly Clams (aka steamers, softshells, pissers), fresh Lobster Roll, a Raw Bar with half-shell oysters and clams and, of course, live Lobsters arriving regularly. Authenticity was crucial - only without the sea breeze, gulls and scent of saltwater. Lighthouses and other nautical decor highlight the ambience to create a coastal dining experience like none other in the greater Lehigh Valley. Our mission is to provide a great place for our employees to work, enabling them to prepare and serve delicious food in a warm, friendly and efficient manner. We want to assure you, our guest, of a memorable visit and encourage you to tell your friends and return often. Your satisfaction is guaranteed or we will make suitable amends.

Returning from a day trip of antiquing in New Jersey we had seen the sign along the highway so we decided to go for lunch. I ordered the clams casino, New England Seafood soup and a baked potato; wife had the crab cake lunch platter. The clams casino were among the best I've eaten and would definitely order again. The same goes for the soup. Chunks of potato and clams throughout. Wife didn't care much for her crab cake since it didn't have many lumps or flavor but she really liked their Marblehead beans and french fries. When the waitress asked about the food we were honest though wife ate part of the crab cake and most of the other items. On her own the waitress removed the whole crab cake meal, which she certainly did not have to nor was expected to. If we are back in the area, we will definitely go back and try some new items but will also get the soup and clams casino again.

Friendly service, delicious fresh seafood, have helped keep this, the best seafood restaurant in the Lehigh Valley on both sides of the river. The fresh fish cooked your way was absolutely delicious, and the chowder never disappoints..Word of advice on weekends get a reservation, the parties of seafood lovers just kept coming in.

It was a wonderful atmosphere, the noise level made it easy to talk to my friend. Drinks and appetizers (lobster bisque and Caesar salad) were delivered quickly and were exactly as ordered. The waiter was very professional and attentive but not annoying. The entrees (stuffed shrimp with mashed potatoes and Chicken Oscar) were absolutely delicious, beyond what either of us were expecting. On our way out the restroom was clean and the hostess invited us to play a game throwing a ball into a bowl where we each won a coupon for a future visit. It was my second visit and I look forward to returning again very soon!

Restaurant business is a difficult one. The key to success is consistency and fresh quality ingredients. Last year the food was good. This year not so much. When I asked the server if the whole belly clams were fresh and if they were in fact from Ipswich like their menus said, she said "oh yes". Well she was not well informed. It was as if they took little necks and tried to pawn them off as Ipswich clams. If you've ever had Ipswich clams you would understand. The serving was skimpy, they were tough & should be taken off the menu. The shrimp scampi was flavorless. It seemed like the shrimp was overcooked and the pasta was sitting around too long. We had our hearts set on a repeat but is was not to be. Who knows, maybe they changed chefs. No repeat performance.

Last time I was here I ordered a blue plate special that seemed to be swimming in lemon which was not listed as one of the ingredients. We ordered an appetizer that was fried and was tasteless and an oily mess. Fish and chips....my nephew picked up the piece of fish and the entire piece of fish fell out of the oily piece of breading. The fries were swimming in grease and the metal pot it was served in was all rusty. We did enjoy ourselves since we were laughing at how bad it was. We actually took a picture of the fish and sent it to a friend! We told the waitress who we really liked that everything was wonderful as we continued laughing. We did leave her a 20+ percent tip since it wasn't remotely her fault. Since it's close to home and we go here pretty often. I'm sure we'll be back when we need another laugh or two.

Last evening we went to the Marblehead with friends. The food was delicious and our server provided just the right amount of attention which allowed us to enjoy our food and conversation. Particularly would recommend the Seafood Chowder and the Crab Norfolk. Their Blue Plate specials are also very good and a bargain. The Marblehead never disappoints!

When it came time to decide our venue for celebrating our 5th. wedding anniversary; there was little to think about. Five years ago, on a very snowy day in February, we were married and then hosted our celebration dinner at the Marblehead Chowder House. As it was then and every time since; there is no comparison to their service and food preparation and presentation.....all enjoyed in a cozy atmosphere. The manager, John, runs a top notch dining experience. When you arrive, you are greeted by the smiling faces of very gracious hosts and servers, who proceed to make your experience one that will keep you coming back again and again. Whether you are a local and frequent the Marblehead on a regular basis or just happen to be in the area every now and then; you will find this a great place to gather for a special celebration or just dinner with good friends or family!

We come here every now and then. Many people rave about it and are regulars. We are consistently underwhelmed. The decor is red lobsterish, employees vary in drmeanor. Our server was rather humorless. The server nearby was much more enthused. Whatever. The food is not inexpensive but it is served in diner/cafeteria like dishes and plastic condiment cups. Really? Terribly tacky at this price. Must say, tho, the fried scallops were delicious and the small crabcake good. Ordered a drink that tasted like the ice had melted in it. Very watery. Also, check your check. We removed an item ordered and it was still on the check.

BBBBTravel, We're certainly disappointed to hear that after multiple visits you find our establishment to be just mediocre. We will use your feedback constructively and continue to strive to provide an enjoyable experience to all of our guests.

Hoping to get decent whole fried clams and would have settled for passable. Got neither. Ordered whole belly fried clams. There may have been the remnants of a torn belly on a few but that was it. They are charging for whole clams and serving strips. Only thing extra was broken pieces of shell with every bite. Strips were tasteless as it was. Beer was decent but came for the clams. After I was done server offered to provide another basket of the same. Really! Thought this was going to be my go to spot when I'm in the area. Clearly thought wrong.

Wayne, We would like to reiterate how disappointed we are that you did not enjoy your clams when you dined with us. We do offer both whole belly clams and clam strips. They are very different products, and we can assure you that we did not serve you clam strips. We did attempt to make amends by offering a new batch of clams and then by offering a refund, to which you told the bartender not to bother. We did also kindly respond to your email regarding your experience and attempted to make amends again, yet you continue to leave reviews on multiple sites suggesting otherwise. We are at a loss at this point as to what else we could do to make this right.

We recently did curbside and were very happy with everything. All of the food was piping hot and also re-heated well when we arrived home. Got the stuffed shrimp and also shrimp scampi over pasta. Both were delicious. Marblehead packages the food very nicely and includes all condiments necessary. Even lemon wedges! I would highly recommend getting take out until the restaurant re-opens. We even found some butterscotch hard candies to enjoy after dinner. Good job Marblehead! We also did curbside to purchase a gift card, easy process and nice presentation for gift giving.

i am from Marblehead and when I read about this place, changed my route to stop here. 1). Best Bloody Mary I've had outside of M'head- hands down. Delish. 2) THey were out of whole belly clams which is what I was coming for. Sad they haven;t been able to get them in the quality they want for ove r2 years, I think its time to take it off the menu. 3). Seafood Chowder was good. Not great but very good. 4) Fried oysters were terrific - nice light batter, plump juicey oysters. Nice atmosphere but we ate in the bar - where the sole bartender was hard at work making drinks for the whole restaurant and serving about 10 customers. Nice job. But really glad to be back in Marblehead MA

Nate our waiter was a delight. He was very attentive to our tables needs. He has a great personality that’s fits well with the ambiance and clientele of the Marblehead. He knows the menu inside and out. He excels at upselling. He delivers all courses in a timely fashion with a smile. He is well trained. Good job to the front and back of the house. Few remarks: *Lobster could be a slight bit hotter in temperature. *Lobster guts should be rinsed off of shell before plating to prevent unwanted foul flavors to come in contact with meat of lobster while shelling or any other food on plate * Plate presentation was sloppy for a $50 meal. *Baked potato could have been sliced open for better presentation purposes. You are getting the plate price. (Show the customers what they are paying for when they visit your restaurant.) Take pride in the look of your plate. * Crab stuffing is too doughy. I would like to see it resemble a crab cake with more crab showing and more of a crab cake taste. Not like stuffing for thanksgiving. *No reaching across the table or plate of other guests while serving food. Walk around table to the guest being served and deliver food at their side. Overall, food taste was great. Especially the oyster stew which was enhanced by Nate’s upselling of a few more oysters to be added. The lobster was cooked to the right doneness. (Just pretty it up a little. A quick rinse of hot water will do.) Make sure it’s delivered promptly to guest after cooking. Thank you for the pleasurable night of dining. See you all soon. Chef Germaine

I left my mask in my car and asked for one at the front desk. No hesitation, one was provided with a thank you. Anthony, our waiter, could not have been more attentive and personable. The Ginger glazed tuna (and I never order tuna) was well presented and delicious as was the crab flavored rice. Something different for a change. My husband's fried oysters were lightly breaded and superb. I'll be ordering them next visit. We both loved the crab corn chowder. The Chowder House serves quality seafood and a reasonable price. It is our go-to restaurant for seafood even though we live in Northwest NJ.

We are frequent guests at the Marblehead, and we have never been disappointed. The food is always excellent and we always have impeccable service. (Damien was our server for our most recent visit, and he always does a fantastic job - I will not eat anywhere that does not have good service, no matter how good their food is - this place definitely has top-notch help and keeps us coming back) Some of our favorite entrée offerings include the seafood au gratin, chicken parmesan, and the mixed grill of steak, chicken, and shrimp. We're always too full for dessert, but we make sure that we order the raisin bread pudding and cheesecake to go. Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

We were allowed to sit outside at your restaurant, Marblehead Chowder & it was a very nice setup with umbrellas at each table along with lights attached to each pole. Our waiter Nathan - he is an excellent, attentive, courteous waiter. He made very sure that we had everything we needed at the table throughout our meal. We were very satisfied with our visit at Marblehead Chowder restaurant. And we'll be visiting Marblehead Chowder restaurant again very soon.
