Been coming to the Bird In Hand Bakery And Cafe for many years and have always been very satisfied. I do believe they have the best Shoofly Pie in the area. The pie is always moist and extremely flavorful and stays for a number of...days without refrigeration. The Whoopi Pies are also a real treat. Breads, doughnuts, buns and specialty occasions cakes are all wonderful. A must stop when in Amish Country. The only problem is living down the road from here. Not good the the waistline.More

We meant to go to the other bake shop but accidentally put this one into the gps instead. We had looked up the website for the other bakery and saw the options so when we walked in and only saw a couple of Whoopi pies...and a couple of shoofly pies we were super disappointed. It was only around 2pm when we got there so it’s not even that it was super late. The cafe part looked packed (as was the whole store) but also completely picked over. Not sure if it was sold out or if there wasn’t a lot to begin with. We didn’t actually end up trying anything from this one once we figured out this wasn’t the same bakery (just similar names), however, with the options they had I’d say skip this one all together and go to the other one which has tons of more options and seems more authentic.More

I cannot tell you enough how much of a must stop this bakery and café is while you're in the area!!! I will definitely say, the earlier in the day you get there, the better chance you have at finding an array of items on...the bakery side, but even if you get there later in the morning or the afternoon, there's still plenty to choose from. Also, it get busy and the staff does an excellent job at serving customers, so please be patient with them. When I was just there, I witnessed a woman go to the staff on the other side of the bakery and demand they get her items as she wasn't one to stand in a line. She then got irate when the staff said they were for their side of the bakery only and had to wait on those customers. Their ice cream is so delicious as well!More

This review is for the baked items only. We had had a lovely breakfast at the Inn where we were staying so stopped in for a mid-morning snack. Wanted to try the whoopie pie and the Shoefly pie. We bought a pumpkin whoopie pie and...it was heavy in the hand so we expected it to be a heavy dessert, we couldn't have been more wrong. The pumpkin cookies were soft and flavorful and the filling surprisingly light and not too sweet. The shoefly pie was a different story, we bought a miniature one for the two of us to share. Mr. B took one bite and said the rest is yours. I took a bite and eh, it wasn't terrible, it was okay, but pretty dry and not a lot of flavor. It was disappointing. The bakery was listed in a book I have titled Food Journey's of a Lifetime, and based on the book, reviews and word of mouth from others who highly recommended the bakery, we weren't that impressed. It was crowded and parking can definitely be a problem, felt more like a tourist destination than a cool little local bakery.More

We bought a large shoofly pie, mini whoopie pies, and sourdough bread which were all very good. The shoofly pie was especially tasty! The crumbly crust and thick, creamy molasses filling made this a delicious treat! Nice, friendly help in the bakery, also!

Every time we are in Lancaster we stop by the Bird in hand bakery and Café to get a Shoofly pie. However this time the shoofly pie is horrible I can get a better tasting pie in a chain grocery store than what we got...today. It is so dry and all crum. Guess they changed how or who is making them and the cost is so much more for poor quality now we will need to strike this place off our list. Very disappointed. They must not be run by amish anymore. They would not put this poor quality product out they have more pride in what they do.More

We stopped here for lunch and were very happy we did. We both had excellent sandwiches which came with potato chips and pickles. Nice spacious, clean seating area upstairs to eat in.

What can you really say about a breakfast sandwich? It's bread, an egg and some sort of meat. But I'm here to tell you, I got a breakfast sandwich here that I've been craving since I left. Slices of thick cut bacon cooked perfectly, an...egg with the yolk cooked just how I like it, cheese and thick cut sourdough toast. And really inexpensive. The coffee was also very good. I sat by the window and did some people watching and it was the perfect start to my day.More

Back in August 2021 we ordered a specialty cake for my birthday to take place in New York. As we are now locals in Lancaster and had to travel to Long Island the cake was packaged for travel. This cake was absolutely outstanding with chocolate...fudge icing on white cake. My friend had celebrated his birthday a week before and had a cake by one of these specialty bakers in New York. I believe the cost was about $150.00. Even he said my cake for about $26.00 was so much better. The Bird In Hand Bakery is really a true gem for true tasting baked goods.More

We got coffee two mornings (early) and it was delicious. LOTS of options of baked goods too. They open at 6AM so a good spot to stop for fresh coffee and pastries.

Bird in Hand Bakery & Cafe has delicious baked goods. Their whoopie pies, and shoe fly pie are my favorites. They also, have yummy breads, muffins, and cakes. The cafe is great for a quick bite to eat for breakfast, lunch or a snack. They...serve egg sandwiches, and fresh baked bagels with choice of spread. There is a counter to eat at or one may go upstairs to a nice eating area, or seasonal outdoor space.More

Stopped at the Bird in Hand Bakery for some pastries since the motel restaurant was closed. What a selection on baked goods to tempt a guy. Decided to overlook caloric intake and have some wonderful donuts and pastries. Food was fresh and delicious.
