Campground has good sized lots. Each site has own pavilion, new picnic table and electric. There is a dump station, bathhouses and non potable water at the dump site. Recommend to bring own water. The campground Web site mentions water but should mention non potable water. Our trip would have been better if we knew about the water before our arrival made family camping difficult not having adequate water. Close by the Elk Visitor Center.

We stopped here for gas twice and noticed they had a restaurant, so we decided to try it for lunch. BIG MISTAKE. The place looked very run down and no one had a mask on, not even the cook/waiter. No one greets you when you walk in. No one came to take our order, we had to order at the counter. I ordered the chicken noodle soup and a BLT. I got plastic utensils with no spoon. My husband had a hamburger, it was ok. The soup looked like Progresso and was way too bland. My BLT was ok. Avoid this place!

Upon entering the Benezett Store and Restaurant, set your clock back 30, no 50, years. You have definitely entered a slice of a bygone era. This stop in the PA Wilds has what you expect to be in this located. Outmoded gas pumps, etc. Here's the thing. It gets the job done. If you're looking for a no-frills stop that is themed to elk, stop in.

We made reservations well ahead of our camping time. The man on the phone was a perfect gentleman until we got there. Upon arrival we stoped at the store and paid for our site in full by check as requested. We were planning on staying 3 nights. The sites were in a big field and the majority were empty and and did not have shade. That was ok because we did have an awning. Each site had a small pavilion which had a picnic table underneath. Great!!! We love to sit at picnic tables that are provided and talk. After we were hooked up we took a good look at our site. Upon looking we realized that we weren't going to be using the picnic table because the grass had on ly been trimmed AROUND the table. In order to use the table we would have needed a long jungle knife to trim the grass and weeds away from the table and the benches. The grass was actually so high that it was growig over the benches and through the seams on the top of the tables. We ate dinner and talked around our camper table. ALL of the other pavilions were exactly the same way. As for the showers and bathrooms....there was one small building for the whole campground. 2 toilets and 2 showers. All showers There was one bathouse, with only one entrance, toilets were for both male and female. Each had a door on them. It was vety creepy to say the least. Male and female could be showering or going to the bathroom at the same time. One door in and one door out. Dim lighting and an unsafe situation. Also, there wasn't anyone around checking on the campground. Check-in was a mile or so down the road. What a disgusting place! An accident waiting to happen. During the evening we got a phone call that my husbands mother, who was 85, had to be rushed to the hospital. Her heartrate was very low and they were going to implant a pacemaker the next day. We waited until morning, packed up and went back to the store we had registered at. We needed to get back home, otherwise we would have just stayed our 3 days and never went back there again. When we spoke to the campground owner we explained why we had to leave. We asked if we might get back our money for the 2 nights we couldnt camp or at least be allowed to make up those 2 nights. He became nasty and very rude. We aked if we could give him cash just for the one night. His response was no then said he would cash the check and call us to let us know what he would decide about the extra 3 nights. (Again, keep in mind that this was an emergency and we really needed to get home. In all our years of camping we had never needed to leave our sites early. We even offered to let him read the texts that were being sent to us keeping us updated on her condition. He had no interest in confirming the emergency.) We left there with him keeping the check and yelling he would call us once he decided if he would give a refund or whatever. Two weeks later my check cleared and 3 weeks later no phone call so my husband called the campground owner. He explained who he was and why he was calling. The owner told him to shut up and hung up the phone on him. I would not recommend this campground to anyone. Refer back to my title. Thank you for your patience and time!

There isn’t much around here anyway but I’m winter most things are closed. It’s a really old store with the basics with reasonable prices. They have some nice shirts and other souvenirs too.

They sometimes have gasoline. Usually have a few food items. Small gift shop type inventory. The restaurant is small, but food is good. Tremendously busy sometimes.

The campground is owned by the store. Its the same price as an electric site and it was dry camping. We also paid $37 EACH for one spot that we shared. The campground is not maintained the bathrooms were not cleaned all weekend. They were absolutely disgusting. The store had a restaurant and it service was poor at best. They do not have enough staff to run the place and they were less than friendly.

Hometown people outside was very friendly. The resteraunt was another story. You could tell we was visitors. We should have left when the coffee arrived and looked like it hadnt been cleaned out in a decade. Very blah and bland as well. I ordered French toast and there was pieces of egg around the edges and just grossed me out. You go outside and to the restroom that way. The cook was in the restroom before me and lets just say not the cleanest looking. She never washed her hands, sink was as dry as anything when I washed mine. Beware, stop at Dollar Store for Granola Bars for breakfast!

We hunt Elk Co every year. One of the highlights was going to the diner Sat/Sun and every evening after hunting all day. This trip, waitress and cook didn't care about anything other than leaving. Service and food were terrible. Used to be a great place under Ben. I believe his brother took it over. Really needs to take a look at the way things are now, drastic difference. Very dissapointing.

Dont waste your time going here. Too bad the cook works here, cause he is amazing! The waitress never brought us coffee or menus, so the cook came out and did....then she didnt write anything down, she forgot half our order and then when we went to pay, she was changing lots of other peoples bills cause she got them wrong as well.

The food doesn't put on airs, but it's decent home cooking. This one's one of the better options in Benezette.

Tried to go there for breakfast Wednesday morning---was not very busy at the time. Sat down offered coffee which we dont drink and that was the last we saw of a waitress. Never received a menu --watched as person serving food was also running register. At register people handed their slip to her and she still asked them what had to eat and they had to tell her. She also told them their charge may go thru 2xs so if it does call them to have it removed. After seeing this chaos and no one paying attention to us after being seated 20 minutes we left. It wasn't just us--all the people that came in after us were having the same experience also. Last time we visited Benezette Store & Restaurant was good at that time but has really gone downhill. We went to Weedville Hotel and had an excellent breakfast and service.
