We were here in 2017 before Irma. We had a wonderful time on the island and at the restaurant. They’ve rebuilt.
We unfortunately didn’t have a good time in March 2019. Maybe the word is out on the island and they can’t handle the crowds?...Maybe we just got lucky last time with it not being crowded? I don’t know, but it wasn’t the same experience.
The complaints I’ve read about the price of food is unwarranted. It’s Anguilla. No, it’s an island off Anguilla, so I don’t know how anyone can’t expect to pay a premium.
The food is good. Complaints about the food are unwarranted. It’s island BBQ good. We liked it again this time.
The problems are with the fact that the restaurant isn’t well managed. It’s a shame. The fixes wouldn’t be that hard. I hope they address them soon before too many people get turned-off.
The restaurant easily becomes overwhelmed, especially if too many private boats arrive. Toss in that some people have figured out they can preorder their meals (private charters), and it ruins the time for those not in the know. Imagine ordering your meal to see someone who arrives long after you get their food first.
When we arrived we heard numerous people complaining about the wait times and trying to cancel their orders. We thought they were just not used to island time and needed to chill out. We learned otherwise the hard way.
It’s one thing to wait island time for your food or drink. It’s quite another to wait in line forever to order and then an hour or more for the food. Picture that for the most part of the day they had only one person handling all customer service.
From time to time another person would jump in to help, but the poor woman was doing everything from taking orders, mixing drinks, running orders back to the kitchen, taking payments and dealing with frustrated customers. Not her fault, but she bore the brunt. They were understaffed and didn’t utilize the personnel they had effectively.
Hopefully, they’ll fix things soon. They have the location. They have good food. The customers going there generally expect to pay up. In return, however, the customers expect things to be run decently. Easy fixes, so I’m crossing my fingers they do it because I’d like to visit again.
P.S. - If they want to make a little more cash to afford additional help just rent out umbrellas for the day. Inexpensive items like that are clear misses on getting more revenue to improve things.More
