Being from the Pacific Northwest, I have had my share of good fish and chips. By far these are the best, regardless if they make them from cod or halibut they are incredible. Quite a nice selection of brews to accompany your dinner. The service...is top notch and you will be checked on just the right amount to not feel bothered, but rather being taken care of. Every time I am visiting Salem, I stop here for dinner.More

We frequently visit Salem relatives and this is our go-to spot for lunch. Situated in a very old home with tons of character, charm, and delicious food as well, you won't be disappointed in a world of too many chain restaurants. Each McMenamins is one-of-a-kind...with a unique menu and great service. You can always count on it. This particular venue is fun because there is a separate bar area as you come in the door, to the right, and seating both downstairs and upstairs in various rooms as well as outdoor dining in the summer. So this is a great place for a business lunch because you have privacy! Especially upstairs. The burgers are all awesome and they make their own fries. The amazing assortment of specialty beers is a little overwhelming, but always delicious. We simply love this place! Reasonably priced, too. (The reference to the passport: you can get a McMenamins passport book and collect stamps as you visit their various historic locations. They purchase historic buildings, rehab and convert into restaurants, sometimes with music and even movie theatres!)More

Stick with hamburgers and typical pub food. The menu is much less varied than in some McMenamin's locations. It's a nice little neighborhood place to pop in.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here (other than the snakes). haha Did that get your attention? I'm sure they are NOT there all the time, but yes... there was a big table outside that had two snakes with them (wrapped around their necks). I know...friends that would have left, but we just kept our distance. Food was very, very good and the service was impeccably awesome!!!More

The food in this place is good and typical of McMenamin's restaurants. There are good options for specialty burgers with home-made fries, tater-tots, salads, etc. The building is a former victorian-era home and the dining areas are in separate rooms. This makes for a somewhat...quiet, peaceful, intimate setting that is conducive to conversations with your fellow diners. The menu includes freshly brewed beers and ales.More

This McMenamins pub has lots of character. Many rooms to explore in an old farmhouse plus a front porch, upper balcony, and side yard with fire pits and outdoor lights at night. Typical McMenamins fare on the menu plus a few unique items. We thought...it was lovely!More

Met a friend in this old house-turned-bar/restaurant for lunch. Atmosphere was quaint but hard to say it was "warm and cozy" because it was rather cool up on the second level. Tables are aplenty in small rooms so don't expect to have very private conversations....But if you're just enjoying a pint and good food from a decently-varied and priced menu. This is a good choice.More

Came here on a Friday night around 7pm. Inside was not very busy but outside seating was heavy. Service was very slow. Took over 45 minutes to get our food. Waitress was apologetic and I know it wasn't her fault but seriously, it was ridiculous....Asked for burger well done. It came very pink inside. Our son had a gyro that was dry and basically fell apart. Would not come back. We've said that before and have waited a year or so to give it another try. Generally I like McMenamins. This time I won't be coming back.More

Have been to happy hour a couple times and also enjoyed the fire pit seating. We have only been for lunch service.. but the bar and fire pit are great to kick back and enjoy great conversation with your party or the ones sitting next...to you :)More

Good food, good beverages, friendly service, all the trademarks of a usual McMenamins. The only quibble I have is that at least one of the bathrooms was super cramped but I had to contort myself in there with my daughter so for a single person...you'd probably be fine ;).More
