Yes, my sandwich tasted great. I couldn't believe the grease on my hands and I certainly couldn't eat a full sandwich with this much oil. Served with fries (yes, I could have chosen a salad but we were off to a full vegetarian meal for dinner so didn't) which were very tasty (and oily.) Six of us ate and six... More

OK, people freakin' love this place. So why was I less than impressed? Mostly, I believe it was the cattle car treatment of getting seated and the fairly long wait for service. The food quality, like all the review point out, is excellent. It's a limited menu, but you should find enough variety, and you will definitely experience good flavors.... More

Al D, Thanks for your review. We appreciate hearing your opinion. Glad to hear the food was excellent as well as the desserts. If you decide to return sooner than in ten years or so you, may want to give our original location on the East side of PDX a try as it's 1/3 the size of our NW location.... More

Papa Haydn is definitely a place you want to visit if you have a sweet tooth. I would say they have at least 20 different cakes you can choose from, each incredibly delicious. I had the chocolate truffle cake which was incredibly decadent and tasty. On the other hand, the actual food served there is nothing special. I had the... More

Great food and wonderful atmosphere. Great location on a fun walking street. The pastries are a specialty.

We stopped by Papa Hayden's on the way back from Mt. Hood. Fortunately, Papa's doesn't have a very strict dress code as we were apres ski. The staff was particularly attentive right from the moment we sat down, despite our disheveled appearance. Our waiter brought water immediately, and provided menus almost before we were all the way in our seats.... More

I recently visited Papa Haydn with some local friends for dessert. I had come here for dinner over the years when in town and always liked the food. The dessert was no exception. I had the lemon curd tart, one friend had the banna creme pie and the other, the Mt Adams cake. We licked the plates clean. Our waiter... More

Papa Haydn is a Portland institution but really can't understand why. Portland is littered with great restaurants but this isn't one of them (although it used to be). I ordered the green chili risotto because vegetarian options were lacking. Green chili and risotto do not go together. My friend ordered the butter lettuce salad and French onion soup. She couldn't... More

We have dined at Papa Haydn's at least 100 times and always been pleased with the quality of food. Of course, they are also very well known for their fabulous desserts. Another nice factor is that the noise level is never overbearing and you can hear all the conversations at your table.

First of all, this was not my first time at Papa Haydn. I decided to get lunch in between shopping this last weekend of January. Now I do agree that dining solo can be challenging, because I always feel as though the service is not at its fullest. I'm often forgotten. That was definitely the case here. I ordered wine... More
