The Malbec and Tempranillo by the glass were sumptuous. We came for happy hour and I was prepared to stay for dinner, but I got turned off by the appetizers. Tempura asparagus sounded excellent - and it seemed to be whisked to us rather quickly from the kitchen. So much more then was my confusion why it wasn't hotter. (You... More

Hadn't been to Bluehour in years, so saved it for special occasion. It is a lovely, quiet restaurant --5 stars for ambience. Just the place for a romantic dinner. We eat out frequently in PDX and try new restaurants. I was not blown away by the service or the food this evening. Nothing bad, but nothing special. Given all the... More

Hi Michael: I'm sorry to hear that you found Bluehour on an off-night. That can happen, but fortunately for us it doesn't happen often. I hope you may try Bluehour again soon. We would love an opportunity to earn back those five stars. Best, Bruce Carey, owner More

We met friends that have enjoyed previous experiences. The amuse bouche was flavorless and uneventful. The Caeser salad spoke to the standard (unnecessary) oversized serving. It was never mentioned that the portion should be shared- flavor, marginal. Two of us had pasta: undercooked and far, too salty. I ate a few bites and the server didn't bother asking why it... More

Dear NYC_to_BKK: I am so sorry to hear that you found Bluehour on an off-night. We are working hard to maintain the same highest standards we have upheld now since we opened in 2000. Obviously we have some work to do, but after meeting with my team, they guarantee that what you experienced will not recur. Thank you for the... More

We went there on the evening of Saturday 3/25/17 for The NowRuz (Persian New Year) Celebration! Restuarant was decorated for the occasion with a very majestic and beautiful Haft-Sin Table! It was an amazing and unforgettable evening, which started with a perfect 5-course Persian dinner along with very exotic cocktails with Persian spices and flavor! Bluehour is a beautiful and... Donald was our bartender, and it was an absolutely incredible experience. He was completely able to recommend drinks and bites based on what we liked. I am so grateful that we had such a knowledgeable host and bartender here at Bluehour. I would totally recommend this bar and Donald to any friend visiting this beautiful city.

I've heard so much about Bluehour that when I happened to be in the neighborhood I thought I"d stop for brunch (sunday). My daughter and I made a spur of the moment decision to eat there. We were greeted by our server who asked the usual questions before seating us. What surprised us was the restaurant was practically empty (more... More

I'm so sorry to hear about this disappointing and awkward experience you suffered at Bluehour. It sounds like we have lost you as a customer despite my plea that this was an anomaly. But in case you do decide to try Bluehour again, I can guarantee that your experience will be vastly improved. Thank you for your consideration. Best, Bruce... More

I chose to dine here on 'not my' President's Day because this is a spot of much accolades some time ago. But I haven't seen much (maybe my Chicago localeis why?) What would fresh eyes from a different city see? Um, I'm not from Portland, but I am from Chicago and in foodie terms I'm prepared. Bluehour is lovely and... More

My wife and I have had dinner at the Bluehour on prior occasions, but for some reason it has been a while since we last were at this restaurant. Dinner for two with no bottle of wine was $201 and for that price most people would expect a reasonably good meal and attentive service. Our waiter looked and acted bored.... More

Your review is painful for me to read because it is so far from our goal to provide always-excellent service and always-delicious food, reasonably priced. Obviously we missed the mark on your last visit, but I have to say, I think it must have been an off night. That's no excuse for what happened, but a plea that you try... More

After an amuse bouche or two and a glass of their house red wine, we tried the 10 course tasting menu ($60 per person, takes about 2 hrs). The small plates highlighted local ingredients from around the Pacific northwest, including oysters, salmon, mushrooms, edible flowers. Plates were pleasing to the eyes and presented a nice balance of textures and flavors.... More

Bluehour means different things to different people. In French literature it describes any time of day "of heightened emotion." In Portland it has come to mean "a great place to dine." As the premier modern restaurant in the Pearl District, Bluehour opened its doors in 2000, with what Gourmet Magazine describes as, "the most sophisticated, contemporary food in town." Guests choose between the elegant dining room or the casual cafe and bar. Simple, delicious and classic describes the Mediterranean cuisine we create in the Bluehour kitchen each night. The menu is printed daily, but Bluehour standards remain, like the pillowy potato gnocchi with black truffle and the perfectly seared, bacon wrapped sea scallops.
