I have mixed emotions about El Gaucho. My sweet hubby took me here to celebrate my birthday and we had a great time. The old school dark lit ambience is nice with flamenco guitar and Spanish songs in the background. Our food was good. Fresh...More

We were in Portland for a concert and had an early reservation. Although not normally a big eater at 5:30, the early time turned out to be an added benefit. We had a great waitperson Gwynn, all to ourselves for a bit. She was funny...More

We were shown to our table where our waiter welcomed us warmly. Austin was terrific and made us feel like old time customers. We splurged and had chateaubriand for two and cherries jubilee which was flamed tableside. We always had full water glasses and the...More

Food was ok, service - ok, the place is clean, toilets - clean. Price through the roof! Will never go there again. One big prob. for me was mandatory 20% tip. Tipping has always been voluntary. When tipping becomes mandatory, it is a tax. I...More

We had a wonderful meal. The food was amazing, and the portions much larger than I expected. The servers all wished us a happy anniversary, and wanted to know how many years we had been married. We had the Caesar salad and chateaubriand prepared tableside,...More

They were able to accommodate same day (last minute) reservation for two. Prompt seating and perfect service. We started with drinks - one of the house custom cocktails and a glass of wine. Both were excellent and prompt. We skipped the "starters" seeing how healthy...More

I don't believe you can smoke directly inside the restaurant but perhaps ask if they have a room to accommodate.

We were served bread shortly after sitting. It was a single option (they may have others if asked) of a nice lightly crisp herb or garlic (if garlic, very light on garlic) bread. It was very enjoyable.
