We have been going to the Virginia Cafe during our annual visits to Portland - we found it to be a great little bar with typical bar atmosphere and good bar food. Nothing like stopping in for a beer and a bite to eat in the early evening. What also attracted us is the history of the Virginia Cafe -... More

Let me say this: I don't choose restaurants just because they have tater tots on the menu. However, it does mean I'm extra interested. While in Portland for a conference, I heard from someone that this small restaurant had a good burger, with tots. So, when I was exploring downtown and realized it was right across from the library, at... More

Since the manager of this bar and grill is gone the entire feel of the place has improved. The onion rings are to die for. They offer salad options that are ok

A hidden gem. Good selection of beer although no porters or stout son draft. Food was great. Large portions. We have enough to have an afternoon snack. Service was excellent. Loved all the art work framed from the art on napkin contest as far back as 1988. Interesting history. Make sure you read back of menu.

I really enjoyed the food and service here. The bartender/waitress was friendly and music not too loud that you had yell over it. Over all a very enjoyable lunch experience.

A business associate and I went there for lunch. We were very impressed at the architecture and old style decor. But the booth "bench" seats were uncomfortable, the menu was pretty limited, and the service was just okay. There weren't very many customers. I had the London broil with fries, and a cup of chili. The server never did ask... More

Blessed are the meek because they won't take up a bar seat at The Virginia Café! My husband got rained in here on a previous visit and loved it, and when I finally went there, I instantly knew why. It's a saloon and part of Portland's history. Step in off the street and it's another world, thanks to the wonderful... More

We stopped in there on a Friday evening and it seemed like a standard bar with standard pub food. The server was nice and prompt.

Happy New Year 2016. We had a fantastic breakfast on New Year's Day (they were serving until 2pm and it was 1pm)... The familiar style and flair were still abundant! Years of Napkin drawing contestant winners framed in the hallway! Playful decor (definitely adult themed, but not too raunchy)! :D Perfect savory breakfast to begin our road trip home and... More
