Pleasant restaurant with excellent, friendly service and good food and tea. It's a gem surrounded by a somewhat questionable neighborhood, but we found it very worthwhile.

They should not be offering lunch, and stick with only hot tea. The beef was eatable, but the noddles and vegetables... they added a sauce on top of the noodle, not even try to cook all together to try to add some flavor. May be...offering just cheese sandwich for lunch they will screw up less....More

Found in the somewhat not so gentle on the eyes old town/China town, this Asian-owned business has about ten or so tables inside in a not very busy, relaxed atmosphere. Not sure there's coffee here -- just many different varieties of tea. You can get...a single cup, but I would urge you to go for the "infuser" choice, a bit more expensive, but really countless cups of tea. It's like getting a bottomless tea pot. I also got a moon cake which was inferior to the ones I always get at the Tao of Tea. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Decor is basic and what you would expect. You can buy lunch food, as well, but we came for tea. Also, I think you can buy tea in bulk here, as well.More

I have enjoyed many meals and tea opportunities here. This is a fun and fresh layover when you are in (what used to be) Portland's Chinatown. Service is wonderful and the owner is gracious and informative.

Stopped by while looking for tea while in Portland after a long day of travel. I expected a standard cup of tea or small pot, but was very pleasantly surprised to see that is was a more traditional tea experience with multiple cups and what...not (I'm not a tea expert, don't judge me). I do know it was great tea (da hong pao) and we purchased some to take home with us. To be honest, we preferred the tea (and experience) at Red Robe than other places in the area. The dumplings were good, too.More

We had a nice long talk among friends around a tea ceremony, tea marinated eggs(recommended), house made cookies and moon cake. The service is friendly and unobtrusive, the atmosphere comfortable, the products for sale; curated teas, tea sets, tea paraphernalia interesting and the owners are...hardworking and welcoming. This is the place -- kind of a sweet refuge for a sweet and simple time with friends and family. Come here when you want that.More

Stopped in for lunch after a city tour. Very limited menu with lots of curry options. Would have liked more to choose from but made it work. One man show so things moved slowly. Small seating area. Food was just ok.

I lived in Portland for three years. This is one of the first places I took tea at. If you love tea, you will understand the preciousness of a proper Chinese tea house in the heart of an American city. I now live in Seattle...and cannot find such a place as this. Truly a treasure. First off, this isn't a place where you grab a paper cup of lukewarm tea and maybe buy some teabags from an anxious underpaid teenager behind a loud cash register. It is subdued. It is a place you come to have a proper tray of puerh tea served in the gongfu style. It is a place for quiet business meetings, for reacquainting with friends and family, for having a bowl of homemade soup on a rainy day, for writing your next book/speech/program. This is a good tea house. If you are a tea person, come here. Ask Pearl which puerh she recommends today. Sit back, and relax.More

My son and I stopped in at Red Robe Teahouse and Cafe for a late lunch. The food menu is not huge but we both found something we wanted. I had the curry chicken and my son had soup with dumplings. The food was very...good and served in reasonable portions--we both left satisfied and without leftovers (a good thing since we were headed to the airport for a flight home). The woman who served us (possibly the owner?) was wonderfully polite, soft-spoken, and helpful. She was attentive but didn't hover over us. I overheard her in interactions with other customers and she was just as wonderful with them. One customer requested a special tea beverage and the server was happy to make the customized beverage for her. I liked the atmosphere of the teahouse--quiet and calming. I meant to take a picture of the calligraphy on one wall but sadly I forgot to. It reminded me of something I might see at a museum. Overall my son and I were very pleased that we selected Red Robe for our meal.More
