I've been at their Hawthorne shop plenty of times & like it quite a bit. Imagine my dismay when I asked at the counter what tea they had, and the guy said, "None. We only have coffee." I'm not sure I've ever had that experiences in Portland before. He wasn't that apologetic or that concerned either. So, I bought a... More

Easily the best cup of coffee and latte I've ever had across the globe! This place is special and a must stop to enjoy Coava's superb coffee.

Coava's pour-over coffees are Portland's best! Its clean and balanced cups are brewed with close attention to water temperature and drip time, and highlight the taste of Coava's finely roasted coffee beans. Well-made espresso-based drinks and a limited selection of pastries are also available.

Wow, don’t forget your hipster I.D. when you enter. Such a cool place and unique atmosphere, but pretty sure we didn’t fit in. And the coffee? Holy cow (I’m pretty sure hipsters don’t say that)! I cashed in my Chemex v-card. Had my first Chemex pour-over and was so, so, so impressed! That was absolutely the strongest coffee I’ve ever... More

Wow! Simply the best coffee I've ever had. The latte was incredible! It's a hip and very sparse kind of place. The menu is limited and you'll take what they give you. I saw the Portland episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and had to try it when we were in Portland, and am I glad we did! The... More

Industrial setting with a plethora of simply amazing woodwork, from the counters to the bathrooms (!), this place is like a woodworker's dream and treasure trove of ideas! THE DETAIL in every bit of woodworking is EYE-POPPING. The staff was rather indifferent, not really friendly, but certainly not unfriendly. They just weren't very chatty or cheerful. I kind of like... More

Portland is a frequent destination for may wife and i! We visit 10 or more times in a given year. So, we've had our share of good Portland coffee. Coava was new to us on this trip. We walked across the Hawthorne Bridge from the downtown side to meet the good friend who recommended meeting there. Coava has a converted... More

The quality of coffee is really good. The staff knows their stuff. Not much more needs to be said. I was not an espresso drinking till coming here, had a great Americano and have never looked back.

Nice coffee tasting and roasting room with a sustainable industrial setting. Limited offering of baked goods yet they were very good. Pour overs of Single Origin (SO) coffees and the espresso is also SO i.e. not the normal Brazil blend. The location is light industrial and this converted space is big with a sustainable message of Bamboo products displayed. The... More
