I don't know why, but my family always votes me down when I mention going to a French restaurant. So, I told them I made reservations at a highly recommended 'nouveau' American place - Ha! The meal, the service ... could not have been more perfect!!!! Thank you so much Little Bird!!! I will never have trouble getting my family... More

The highs and lows: Their Charcuterie Plate was the most interesting dish on our table -- the toasted bread on my wife's chicken sandwich was charred. Service was friendly and attentive. On a hot day their airconditioning doesn't quite hit the spot upstairs, so seat yourself according to the seasons, although I suspect upstairs may be stuffy in the Winter... More

Stunning flavors. Unbelievable seasonings in balance, with tremendous textures. Try the crisp trout, fresh oysters, charcuterie plate. Wine and cognac list is awesome. Altogether memorable.

We are "seniors" who travel a lot and enjoy dining out in all the places we go. This restaurant offered very attentive and helpful servers, a decent wine list, and a limited but interesting menu. Our salad was simple but large and a very fresh assortment of interesting greens. The main courses weren't as tempting. House bread was crusty and... More

Congrats to the chef! Every course was both tasty and subtle. This chef knows the power of a little seasoning/herbs. The main courses of fried chicken coq au vin and grilled pork chop were done perfectly, with sides that beautifully complemented the main course. Dessert was even more nuanced -- using basil with ice cream and lemon verbena. Corn ice... More

Great overall experience: food is delivious, well presented. The main room has very high ceiling, great mirors and plants with large windows: all together it makes you feel like you are in a larger room than it actually is. Very nice. Our waitress was very helpful and accepted to cancel our side dish (tomato /lentil salad). It arrived with lots... More

Excellent menu. Good wine selection. Surprisingly lots of seating space when you look at it from the street. Fun place for lunch as you browse downtown Portland.

My best friend from grad school loves "steak & frites" - which is why I chose Little Bird. I had scrumptiously prepared sautéed foie gras (my favorite splurge) and scallops. Chocolate Mousse (her) and Madeleines (me) for dessert. Excellent service, quiet enough to talk, very comfortable feel. We will be back!

I visited here on a Sunday evening, and the earliest reservation we were able to obtain was 9 PM. The host was kind enough to call us when our table was ready, and took my coat from me when I arrived. We ordered the steak tartare, soup du jour, Manila clams, the pork entree and a bottle of wine. The... More
