Went after a late afternoon concert around 7 on a Sunday. The service was friendly and the food excellent. I am writing this several weeks after we ate, and can't remember the specific dishes. However the appetizer, and entrees were delicious. I am not Indian...so can't speak for the authenticity, but we did see several Indian patrons, so that is always a good sign when eating ethnic food.More

A thing that never won’t mislead you is the rate of Indian people eating there. It is high and there is a reason for it. I trust them.

It's always fun to take someone who doesn't think they like Indian food to a good Indian restaurant and watch them enjoy. This one has several tandoor dishes, and we enjoyed murg tikka. They also have a section where you first pick the preparation, then...the main ingredient. For example, you could choose vindaloo as a preparation, then choose whether it was made with veg, chicken, lamb, or shrimp. They have dum biryani from Hyderabad, which is unusual but worth ordering for the southern Indian flavor profile. Naan is very good too. The complaint - several menu items they no longer make and they don't seem to be in a hurry to update the menu.More

With a good ambience at a good location in downtown, the restaurant provided a lovely authentic Indian food.

I'm super picky about my meat. It's just something that I can't control, and it had stopped me from enjoying any Indian food in the area. Several restaurants that I had loved started cutting costs and it showed. I thought I'd given up. East India...proved me wrong. What a great place. Nice ambiance, great cocktails, incredibly attentive wait staff ... but the food was just delicious!! We got quite a variety as it was our first time. Everything was amazing. Rich flavors, high quality meats, and two super happy diners. (note: the salmon tandoori is not to be missed.)More

We ate here on our first night in Portland and were a little disappointed. The restaurant is nice enough and staff pleasant enough. The menu is quite compact but there's enough choice and variety. My wife ordered the tandoori chicken and I had the chicken...vindaloo with the waitress warning me about how hot it would be. I've been eating hot curries for around 45 years and truly have never tasted such an insipid vindaloo. If you like your curries full of tomatoes and a little spice then the vindaloo's for you. On the plus side the tandoori chicken was good. We also didn't like that the waitress on clearing our plates said she'd bring the check when we still had drinks in front of us. Her colleague duly arrived with the said check a minute later. Do they not trust their customers?More

We stopped here with friends based on the trip advisor reviews and location ( we were downtown). The restaurant was lovely. It has a decent menu w all of the Indian favorites. My favorites were the shared channa masala (chickpeas) and samosa chaat. My korma...was pretty basic, and my husband could have used a bit more heat in his 5 star” vindaloo. The breads ( roti, naan) were a little crispy for our liking. But it scratched itch of “must get curry”.More

Went there with high expectations for lunch. On Saturday there was no lunch menu and had to pay dinner prices for entrees. With the meat dish we requested lemon slices and onion; also asked for hot vindaloo sauce in the side to spice up the...dishes. When the bill came, we were charged $5 for the hot sauce and $2 for the lemon slices and onion under the pretext of “salad”. When questioned the server said “they will not allow me to give anything without charging”. We have been to countless Indian restaurants where onion and lemon slices are complimentary (paid dinner entree prices for the lunch) and we can understand an up charge of $1-2 for the sauce but $5? That is greedy! We were not informed about these high charges upfront!More

The place itself is nothing special though clean and cosy. The food though is excellent with generous portions.
