Visited with family last week. Everyone enjoyed their meal and a nice touch was the complimentary coffee served at the end of dinner. Highly recommend this family run restaurant. Will definitely return.
We happened upon this amazing restaurant and were we ever in for a treat! Despite not having a reservation on a busy Thursday evening, the owner personally saw to it that we were seated promptly, greeted with a warm smile, and were served our appetizers...quickly. The meal that followed was some of the best Lebanese food we have ever eaten. Hats off to this family run business …More
I actually went 3 times in 1 week after finding this gem! I've had something different each time and all including drinks were fantastic! The chicken shawarma is my fav. I will be frequenting as often as my pocket book allows.
We went for an early dinner at Al-Hawr. Our table ordered as much variety as we could. Our starters were the sampler platter with grape leaf, humus, and 4 other choices with pita bread. We split up the kabobs, Kafta and the mixed kabob dinner,...with rice and small salad also. We tried the dessert of Knafeh, which is a bit sweet and cheesy.Over all, we had a good meal. It was nice to meet the owner and his sons in the restaurant. Mom is the cook in the back.More
Easy to get to via N/S streetcar, two blocks from a stop. Huge portions of excellent food. Super creamy hummus with warm pita to start, followed by a giant portion of grilled chicken breast shish taouk, with garlic sauce and fluffy basmati rice. Washed down...by a thimble of Turkish coffee after a hard pineapple cider. Lovely!More
This restaurant is down amongst the condos and OHSU medical buildings on the waterfront. I have been there multiple times because of needed visits to OHSU. Kind of hard to get to but if you are in the area it is the best thing going....The owners and wait staff are very nice and friendly. The food is terrific. I recommend the Top Sirloin Skewer from the appetizer menu. Very clean and comfortable with just a little outdoor seating.More
I think I've written about Al-Hawr before, but repeat visits can be informative. We STILL love this restaurant: family run, excellent food, ample portions, great friendly service, relaxed. Most folks would have to make an effort to come here: not downtown Portland, iffy parking. BUT...getting here from the I-5 with help from your iPhone or whatever isn't all that difficult and would be well worth the effort.More
Relaxing dining experience in a beautifully appointed space. Soft music. She had the mixed meat platter and liked the chicken the best. I had the ground lamb 'ka-bobs'. Everything came with a nice salad, flat bread, and saffron rice. Plates were about 15.00 for dinner....They also have lunch at about $10.00 per sandwich offering. Complementary Lebanese coffee after dinner. Very friendly, the staff needs to step up a bit...ie: clearing the plates, also, cloth napkins would be an added touch for this otherwise high class establishment. Located near the bottom of the tram.More
This is a perfect place to eat in this new Portland neighbourhood - part of a health care campus and near the base of the space-age air tram. The tangy, smokey eggplant dip, the fattoush salad with pomegranate molasses dressing, the perfectly done and flavourful...mixed meat grill were all big hits. A perfect end to the feast were mint tea and a few baklavas... Warning: portions are huge, more for a table of 4 than for a couple of diners. You might have to take some of this home!More
I love this little family owned/run restaurant! My second time here, I brought an out of town friend for something a little different. Food is authentic, staff is so friendly and helpful. My guest and I shared a couple of items, and still had leftovers....I will definitely be back, and I recommend anyone to go for a unique experience!More
