This is Portland's third snowpacolypse and most of the restaurants downtown are closed, naturally the ones in a hotels are open. I was staying downtown and was looking for a yummy place for lunch… Urban farmer is somewhere I would typically only get a snack and a glass of wine because it never looked that special. But oh my goodness... More

Went to Urban Farmer at the Nines Hotel for a birthday lunch. It was great. We really enjoyed the quirky ambience, had great service and the food was lovely - and you could tell it was fresh, almost home cooked. Very enjoyable and original place for a lunch.

We went here for a late lunch after failing to find anywhere else in downtown Portland that appealed. It's a very trendy space, and we were first offered only a high top table, when there were other "normal" dining tables clearly available. We were grudgingly permitted to sit at the lower table when we asked. The food we ordered took... More

From all the great reviews I expected a bit more. I was satisfied but not impressed. Food was OK, service was good. Desserts were excellent. Location is not bad but patio is next to a busy bridge, maybe nicer in the summer but not in the fall when there are no leaves for shade.

The meal was flavorful and well presented. Nice variety of food options on the menu at a fair price. The house made chips were the right choice. Unique atmosphere within the restaurant and bar. It contrasts with the drab foggy hotel that rises above. Only draw back was service. Our waitress' timing was off...late to take order...late to deliver main... More

The room is a bright open hotel atrium space so, if you don't look up and see guests peering down out of their windows at you, it's actually quite nice. The food is inconsistent which is especially disappointing for a high price point restaurant. The proportions of were a bit off as well-- the breakfast fritatta was slightly overcooked and... More

Very high quality food and service in the courtyard of the Nines hotel. 8th floor. 1 block from red line. Crab cakes were crab no sign of bread, perfect! Butternut squash soup very yummy! The creamed spinach was amazing. I will be back!

We went here about 8AM on a weekday morning--very few people in the restaurant. The ambience was delightful and the food outstanding. I had the farm vegetable frittata--the foraged mushrooms were outstanding. My husband had the continental breakfast with a strawberry rhubarb danish--yum!

Description
Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.
