I drank a lot of acidic espresso around downtown Portland before I finally found this lovely cafe. The original owner opened TorreFazione (I've been to one in Italy) and they serve their espresso Italian style, just the way I love. Went back the next morning, 10 block walk from our hotel, just to go again. Espresso and Macchiato both properly... More

I liked the look of the place and found the coffee and snacks delicious. The decor is Italian and nicely arranged. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Good service here.

Good chai tea latte with soy. Polite servers. The music they played was quite loud, my table was surrounded by 3 other couples who were talking loudly in order to be able to hear each other. As a result, I felt noisy. It is my personal preference to enjoy a cup of good coffee under a quiet environment. Some cafeterias... More

This recent visit was much noisier than I remembered, spoiling the talk among the 3 of us. The gelato was okay. The main thing that had first impressed me, and stayed the same was the beautiful architectural details. The use of curves overhead as well as the color palette. The style still feels European.

We were here for the Italy vs Germany game. Had some wine, a beer and one of the caprese focaccia sandwiches. 8 bucks for a sandwich is a bit steep in my opinion. Did it give us a quick flashback of being in Italy? Yes. With balsamic on it, no haha. Delicious none the less, but not somewhere to stop... More

If you want a great cup of coffee, this is the place. I personally love an extra dry cappuccino and this is the one place where they know exactly what that is. No milk poured into the cup, just foam. It is so yummy it's dessert.

Fantastic delicious coffee. I'm only giving 5 stars because I can't give 6. Pleasant staff, large seating area, clean as can be. If you actually love the best you'll be happy here! Had the large cappuccino with a large "stretched" milk foam head. Better than dessert (but they have those also).

Great coffee. Good sandwiches and breakfast items. Fast service. Get a table and sit outside if sunny. Decent people watching.

Caffe Umbria is a popular meeting spot. The macchiatos and cappuccinos are excellent; the service particularly attentive.

Caffe Umbria does capture the proper Italian roast and flavors of great espresso. The crema on even ristrettos is nice, and the flavor profiles mild but assertive. The cappuccino was likewise flavorful, with correctly steamed milk. The only challenge is that the cups are American-sized, not Italian-sized (not really looking for a bucket of coffee!). Definitely recommend as flavorful.
