Wonderful experience at The Hairy Lobster! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and makes for a cozy dining experience. The staff is very friendly and attentative to your every need. The food, delicious! We tried 4 small plates which were very generous and a desert, all...perfectwith beautiful presentations. Next time we are in Portland, we will return!More

if you like dining and enjoy the experience as well as the food this is a place you should try a few times. The menu is honestly as creative as ever seen in Portland. David Root is constantly looking for just the right combination -...fresh ingredients, thoughtful interactions, historic perspective, courage and imagination, good judgement...just as interesting as the dishes are good. Desserts?? What can you say about Mellisa Root that Three Gold Medals in the World Culinary Olympics don't tell you. Excellent and varied wines and surprizing cocktails. All in a beautiful setting and fun seasonal events. Christmas, Halloween, Valentines.. book early!More

Delightful meal in all respects. The outdoor dining facing the fountain with comfy chairs was a bonus. The staff excellent. My trout was perfectly cooked and perfectly delicious. Kudos to the kitchen. I did almost swoon over the heavenly ANGEL FOOD CAKE. All in all...a perfect summer evening in the Pearl.More

We had four small plates, one large plate and a desert. Turned out to be too much for two of us, so we will continue the journey tomorrow at home! Everything was absolutely delicious. The duck small plate was in a mild mole sauce with...corn and goat cheese stuffed poblano. The trout was crazy good. We will definitely be back.More

Great service and food. The lobster of course was heavenly, but the chicken in a honey curry sauce was the unexpected treat of the evening. Totally yummy. Tomatoes with smoked eggplant was a terrific combination. Highly recommend this restaurant for interesting food and attentive but...not intrusive service.More

We thought this would be a nice place to dine in the Pearl, and we relied on Tripadvisor reviews here that said there were vegetarian options. If you are veggie and looking for a dinner of mushroom soup and french fries, then by all means...go here. The menu is deep with meat items of all varieties, and staff will suggest you order two small plates per person (this alone can make your head explode because of the prices). The gnocchi looked great, but staff said the bacon could not be left out to accommodate our vegetarian palate. We apologized and reluctantly departed. Beautiful dining space that we were sad we weren't able to enjoy. Tripadvisor contributors: do not be careless with your reviews. Hairy Lobster: you need to accommodate your veggie guests better.More

Dining with a large party was always difficult and you were often stuck with typical chain type restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised to come across a unique restaurant like the Hairy Lobster and being able to book online even though it was a large party....We chose the $40 Chef table (and yes you have to book a set menu for a large party). The food was excellent including a lovely mushroom bisque, grilled ribeye and some lovely desserts. Our server was very patient with us and could not recommend this restaurant to everyone!More

My daughter had just finished her Barre3 training nearby and was starving when we noticed a sign for Happy Hour on the restaurant window. Glad we noticed. Wonderful ambiance and really friendly professional service. Daughter found her happy hour mac and cheese with shrimp to...be very good and charred broccoli - broccoli! - from the dinner menu to be the best she has ever had. I tasted a little bit and had to agree with her. Wife swooned over her chocolate ganache with cherries. I said happy hour so all I had was a microbrew, have eaten earlier. Outstanding place - would like to come back for dinner some time.More

It is casual. My husband wore a jacket and no tie and I had on black jeans with a nice top and we were the dressiest people there!

My answer is probably too late for you - but if others are wondering - we ordered 2 small plates (vegie dishes) and 1 chicken and 1 lobster. We were full after that. But the wife is the pastry chef and the both of them were... More
