I usually skip Fish n Chips places as they tend to drown the fish in batter but after reading a few reviews and also hearing how good a person the owner is to her staff, I took a chance and was glad I did. The fish was excellent as were the fries and I liked their spin on cole slaw (horse radish I think). I would definitely eat here again.

My wife and I stopped by over the weekend while on the coast. Great meal and atmosphere. I had a shrimp basket and my wife had albacore tuna fish and chips. The shrimp was very good but the albacore tuna was excellent and I'm glad the lady owner suggested it. Service was good and the attitude of the folks working there was friendly and fun. We'll be back when we're in the area again.

Thanks so much for stopping at my crippled lil' fish hut! We are doing our best to stay focused and on task while simultaneously dealing with a GIANT pile of restrictions and limitations. So glad you got Albacore. I have been stuffing it down my gullet like a starved seagull!

Was passing through and stopped here for lunch. Hands down the best Fish and Chips I have had in America. Not a small statement to make, but accurate! It was NOT heavily battered, over/under cooked or over seasoned like 99.9% of the F&C places. It was PERFECT! I was in heaven, and then I had their Crawfish Po-Boy sandwich. Lordy, I am putting this place on my list of seafood Mecca's and WILL be stopping every time I come through Port Orford, OR. The staff were real and friendly. Excellent place to eat.

I was staying in Port Orford for 2 nights on a motorcycle trip up the coast. The second night I went to Crazy's based on TA reviews. What a mistake that was. I'm familiar with popular places where you have to wait...and the wait is worth it. This is not one of those places. Here you just have to wait because they're inefficient. My order, a to-go order of just fish & chips with slaw, along with a bunch of other orders, ended up sitting on the shelf waiting to be handed out. By the time I got it it was practically cold. The fries were actually cold. The fish had a minor hint of warmth to them, but nothing more. And it was mostly batter with very little fish. For nearly the same price, just one block down, I had a much better dinner the first night at Redfish. I'm guessing that since there are so many 5-star reviews that I just had an off night. Maybe they do a better job for lunch? Maybe they get orders out faster normally? There must be something different about my experience because it absolutely wasn't 5-star.

Hello! Thanks for stopping and I appreciate the heads up. In the past year and a half my business has had to pivot, reboot, pivot, adapt, adopt, change so many times it would make your head spin! I understand your frustration and concerns more than you know. I am not trying to be inefficient or make my guests disappointed rest assured. My restaurant is plagued with the same problems as many-not enough qualified workers, too many people in our tiny town, incredible increases in the cost of goods, etc., etc. We have gone to a 80/20 split with takeout vs. dine in when historically it has been the other way around. When there is table service, we can manage the flow of people and not crush our tiny kitchen line. At this time when takeout is 80% of business, we can't seem to keep a steady flow--rather we just get crushed over and over...there seems to be no pattern (except 12-2 and 6-8 when we expect the crush). I have lost decades of sleep trying to figure out a better way and still keep a price point that is both visitor and regular friendly and keep enough people on shift to alleviate some of the bottle neck when food is being put up. My line cook just walked back to tell me he has an order for 24 tacos...stuff like that slows things really fast. So, long version-we are asking for more patience. Short version-hope you can come back some time and try again!

The Crazy Norwegian’s Fish and Chips in Port Orford is a must stop on any trip to the southern Oregon Coast! This cute restaurant has cozy indoor dining with the option of sitting outdoors to enjoy the ocean breezes. It is also just a short walk to Battle Rock Beach, which has stunning ocean views. What about the food, you ask? Amazing! Practically Perfect in every way! 😊 We started off with a basket of lightly fried oysters cooked to perfection. We didn’t think it could get any better, but the fish and chips were so delicious, and the fish tacos were to die for! The homemade sauces were above and beyond the ordinary. We finished off our meal with a slice of homemade marion berry pie topped with ice cream and walked out feeling pleasantly full and more than satisfied. The owner is extremely personable and had friendly interactions with all her guests. I’m not surprised this little fish hut is getting rave reviews, and we promise we’ll be back. Thanks for a great experience, Dianne! It was a delightful visit and meeting Finn was a bonus! P.S. We went to Bandon and ate with some friends. We wanted to enjoy some similar foods, but there was no comparison. Make the trek to Port Orford. It won’t disappoint!

Wow! Thanks for taking the time to report such a wonderful experience at the Hut. It is hard and often traumatizing in the summer to make our guests understand how much we REALLY love them and care about their time spent not only at the restaurant, but in our little Outpost in the middle of nowhere! I appreciate you so much.

I was staying at the nearby Cape Blanco State Park and passed this place on the way. I drove back because there was considerable cars around it, but to my chagrin it was packed with Firefighters who were camped up by me. I waited a reasonable amount of time before getting a table. The place was immaculate but the servers were overwhelming with the firemen coming in. After ordering the cod and clam strips, I started to look around. Lots of firemen leaving the restaurant with mostly uneaten food. I was a Red Cross Disaster Shelter Manager and worked hand in hand with the Hotshot crews and they eat everything that comes within a foot of them, but today these firefighters left plenty on their plates. I saw a firefighter who ordered the clam chowder bread bowl and he pushed it away like it had cooties. When my Oder came, the fish was soggy and oil was old. The clam strips were rubbery and unappealing. I took the remaining back with me, but the greasy taste precluded me from finishing it. Just not a good experience for me.

Hey! Thanks for stopping and thanks for your work with the Red Cross! I love that we are a "Greasy Spoon"! We change our oil at least every other day, so not entirely sure why you felt the oil was old-I spend hundreds of dollars a week on oil. Clam strips are one of only three things that aren't made to order by us (garden boogers and chicken strips are the others). I try and get the best premade product available, but to some they are definitely chewy. I am super surprised that your fish wasn't to your liking, especially since it was hot on a plate and not stuck in a cardboard box. As far as the determination that ALL of our food was crappy or cootie filled by looking around at other diners, I have to wonder if you perhaps might have been projecting a bit...our community is so very THANKFUL that we had the crews in town. They literally stopped the fire from destroying our little outpost! So, hopefully, they were just exhausted! That bread bowl is made in our kitchen with a starter that is as old as the restaurant--30 years!

After being closed for a while due to the Governor shutdown, their back open again and as good always. For the time being it's only take out and a limited menu, but the fish and chips made with local ling cod and crabcakes were excellent. It's our go to stop for seafood any time we're in the area.

So glad we made the short drive up the coast from our vacation rental in Gold Beach! We very much enjoyed our fish and chip combos. I also had a few fried shrimp, which were very tasty. The breading on the fish and shrimp was flavorful but not so overwhelming that it hid the fish. We were amazed that the fries were crispy, from the first to the last…and we took our time eating. We also got cinnamon rolls for the next day’s breakfast. Oh, and the lemonade and cranberry lemonade was super refreshing! We drove a few yards to an overlook and watched the waves while we ate. Perfection!

Thanks so much for coming to the Hut! When I first moved to the Outpost I was always kvetching that I had to drive 30 minutes to go out to dinner somewhere besides PO. I shortly realized that I just needed to sit back and enjoy those 30 minutes of beauty, cuz it took that long for me to get to any restaurant in Portland from my house! Anyhoo, I digress. I am so very happy you took a little roadie to eat and see our beautiful town!

I got a blt recently that was cooked so poorly it made it my worst ever at this place. The veggies were fine but that’s it. The bread was toasted in butter on the grill until it was brown and the bacon was grilled until there was no flavor left and it was falling apart. Don’t know where this cooked learned to do blt but not what I have ever seen before. Zeros

Sure hate to hear this! The BLT is usually one of our BEST things. This season has been the hardest thing imaginable for us. One of the most frustrating things is that I can't SEE every thing before I serve it due to the packaging of my beautiful food. We are fighting a good fight and sometimes we fail-this time apparently was a fail. If you are ever back I would love for you to introduce yourself and let us make it up to you! Again, we are trying our best-but I can't pace the kitchen because of the lines at the window. My A Team has flown to the winds with their gubberment money and we are struggling during this pandemic. We really do care about your experience and hope next time is perfect!

Our party had the fish and chips, the fish sandwich, which were lightly battered, both very good, fries average. The clam chowder had a lot of clams, not a lot of flavor and not as creamy as I like. French They make their own tartar sauce, the best I have ever had, be sure and ask for extra! Fun place to eat right on the coast, a classic.

Thank you very much for stopping and taking the time to publish a review! I am having a hard time keeping my french fries consistent. The brand that I have used for over a decade has disappeared and then reappeared at DOUBLE the former cost! I spend more time lately trying to track down ingredients instead of actually cooking them--oh well, glamor and intrigue, story of our lives!

Friendly service, and served within a reasonable time. Due to Covid though I did not feel comfortable when I opted to order inside, very small location with limited room to stand with a safe distance. For sure call in if you are going to order. The food was good. The fish n chips was my selection-the breading was good, not fully cooked and slid right off the fish so a fork is a must. The tartar sauce was different, not sure how to describe, it seemed to have dill in it, but mixed with something else so it was not for me.

Thanks for stopping by! Yes, it is tiny. Yes, it has been super difficult to get folks to distance. Yes, it is exhausting trying to herd cats. As you mentioned, it is possible to order by phone and have it delivered to your car without coming inside. The breading will always slide off because of our frying method, not usually undercooked. We dip it in freezing cold batter by design to create a steam pocket between the fish and batter which cooks the fish perfectly. The tartar sauce is super popular with about 80% of our customers, 10% don't care, and 10% despise it, so guess we put you into the latter category. Next time, ask for the remoulade, chipotle, or red sauces-fun to try with your fish!

The fish tacos are the best I have ever had! The fish is fresh, purchased directly from the local fisherman and the sauce cannot be beat. It is worth standing in line and then sitting outside on one of the picnic tables. Great local ambiance and minutes from Battle Rock beach if you want an ocean front view! Highly, highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

Good Morning! Thank you for all the superlatives. I love a good superlative in the morning. The fish tacos are the second most popular item on the menu after Fishy Chips, and with good reason. Messy? Yup. Finger licking good? Yup. I almost always have fresh Oregon fish on Fridays and Saturdays, but our "go to" is Cod. Why? Cuz Cod is our Co-Pilot! I hope you have a terrific summer!

Probably the best fish and chips I've ever had in my 50 years. I had the fish and chips combo with oysters. The fish was delicious and the oysters tasted fresh. The fries were Krispy on the outside but tender inside. The amount of breading was just right, and did not absorb too much oil. Everything came hot, in fact I had to let it cool a bit first before I could eat it. The combo came with more than enough food, and ended up as two meals for me.

Delicious quick lunch. We had fish and chips which were very large portions of fish. And a bowl of clam chowder with a sourdough bread bowl. Sad thing was how deserted everything looks because of Covid. It looked like a ghost town. We sat outside on clean tables and enjoyed our meal. The staff was very friendly.

We arrived a few minutes before it opened and were fortunate to be one of the first inside at noon. Wonderful food, we enjoyed the fish and chips…lightly battered fish and cooked to perfection. Our server was incredibly welcoming and attentive to our needs. The owner made it a point to ask us how our experience was. Nice touch! Definitely will return.
