We have always enjoyed this restaurant when visiting the area. I have always rated this restaurant 5 stars but was disappointed this trip. We had a 4:30 reservation so we could enjoy the sunset with my visiting brother in law. As usual I always appreciate...the extra time and effort the chef/owner puts into his simple but thought given process in his preparation. The salad is always fresh, cold and crispy greens with extra time put into the picked sweet cucumber, the pickled cauliflower and the balanced and chilled carrot slices. The combination compliments any dressing choice. My wife and brother in-law both ordered the Halibut one pay seared and one blackened. Both were very happy with the presentation, preparation texture, freshness and flavor. I ordered a charred medium rare ribeye steak. This is where i was disappointed in getting a medium to medium well cooked steak that was on the dry side. The meat was good quality but not to my liking nor as I ordered it. When the server came to clear the table she asked me if I wanted a box for the portion of the steak i did not eat, I said no it was somewhat over cooked for me. She apologized and nothing more was said. The steak did not have crisscrossed char marks on it that seal in the juices like I have had in past visits to this restaurant. We then ordered the six layer sweet street chocolate cake which is always great for for finished with the bottle of wine and a cup of coffee. The server then brought the check with no adjustments for the overcooked steak. The server did do a good job and was attentive so I still left her a $41 tip on a bill of $189. We will go back but will order my steak rare and maybe get it the way i like it.More

This is a truly outstanding restaurant. The food was simply wonderful. I had the Halibut casserole which was chock full of crab legs and shrimp in a light sauce. It was SO good. Service was very attentive. Some nice water views from most tables. Dress...is casual and most everyone was in jeans.More

Just had the special of the day. Shrimp, crab legs, and scallop in a wine sauce. Included was soup or salad, veggies, and bread. Salad was good, who puts pickled carrots, cucumbers, and peppers in a salad. Hilltop House does!! The seafood dish was amazing...and only $25.00. Full bar and social distancing. Make a reservation as the place was packed.More

A better description of our August visit. The crab legs cocktail and calimari appetizers were great and a lot of food. The seafood lasagna was absolutely one of the finest dishes we have ever had. Big portion in a baking dish. The calimari was so...tender you can cut it with a fork. And lots of it! Ya gotta try this place.More

Probably one of the finest meals we have had on the coast. Absolutely chef quality! Don't let this 60's appearance stop you. It's cute inside with the best service. We had calimari, crab legs appetizers hi by not a large place but scenic. We dine...out on the coast often and this place shines. Well traveled boomers here. Enjoy.More

Hi gang, Needing to settle my urge for some vittles I checked TripAdvisor for restaurants in the Coos Bay/North Bend Area. Way up on that list was Hilltop House, so I went. Got there at opening time (4 pm Friday) and was the first customer...- whodathunkit ?? I asked for the daily special broiled rock fish, rice, salad, garlic bread, mixed veggies and a glass of Napa Valley Zinfandel. Total bill $26 ($19/$7) plus tip. Cheyenne was my server and didn’t miss a beat checking on me throughout my meal. There’s a killer view of the baylands area and parts west beyond that. I definitely recommend eating here, good food, good prices, good service and a great experience. RichMore

We Came for dinner at 8:00pm. Last customers of the day. We were treated to a very pleasant reception. Seated by the large windows overlooking the bay we were able to watch the sunset. Just an added bonus to a fantastic meal. Served hot and...well prepared and each course in proper order and time. The artichoke and crab dip, salad, clam chowder steak, prawns and crab cakes were perfect. In addition to the meal our server was just just awesome and gave us stellar service. She never rushed us even though we lingered past closing time. OH yea the wine was pretty good too!! We so thoroughly enjoyed our eveningMore
