Good spot for some chowder, and seafood.

I was driving the Scenic 101 bypass, and had seen this place on Google Maps. I looked at some of the food pics, and decided we would give this place a shot. We got there around lunch time, and it had a decent crowd. Our waitress was nice, and able to give us info, on some of our food choices. We wanted a bit of everything, so we got the seafood platter... each. The waitress looked at us like...are you sure? She told us that it was a lot of food, but we still went for it. It was pretty good, and filling, as it was a lot of fried seafoods. I really enjoyed the bowl of chowder. I should have taken some more, to go. We were only able to eat half of what was on the plates, and took the rest with us. Overall, we spent about $70.00, for 2 seafood platters, a small chowder, a big bowl of chowder, and 2 beverages. You can't beat the lovely beach view, a block or so away, after a nice meal.

Excellent food and great service

We have eaten here before, and as usual it was excellent. Our server, Tiffany, was delightful. She was professional and efficient and helped to make an already delicious meal more enjoyable. My husband enjoyed the fried oyster club sandwich and I loved the popcorn shrimp with a baked potato. We always make a point to visit the Chowder Bowl when we visit Newport.

This is our first visit in over 6 years. The food was average, nothing spectacular. The half-pound of fire wasn't really fire at all, not much slaw under the small prawns. The garlic bread wasn't just bread with butter on it not much toasting going on there. The southwest potato poppers were okay, not really sure if they were mashed up tater tots or mashed potatoes, there wasn't much filling after deep frying. The calamari were tasty as always. The zucchini sticks were pretty much the best thing we ordered. The bread pudding was very rum forward, and it overtook the dessert, so it was very hard to eat. Sometimes a to go/take out order is prepared much differently than when you are dining in person. We have become very picky about where we eat just because a place is on the coast and near the water it doesn't mean the food is local and fresh! We do walk by the place on a basis when the back door is open the smells that come from the place are great especially fresh bread! The customer service is always great, and they are very friendly.

Staff was friendly and attentive I ordered the shrimp croissant sandwich. Also, I can say is bland, bland bland. The shrimp were not seasoned at all topped with two in Nemic slices of tomatoes, shredded iceberg lettuce on a croissant. If you’re if you were on a diet of bland, it would’ve been perfect for you. I ended up sending it back and I got the clam chowder which was like bland paste, so disappointing that I’ve heard so many wonderful things about the restaurant will not go again

Service was good but the food not so much. I ordered the clam chowder which was pretty good but no standout. I ordered a slice of grilled garlic bread which was a soggy white piece of bread with no garlic or toasting to speak of. The batter to the fish and chips was more fitting for fried chicken than fish. It just lacked any flavor. The fries were cooked beyond crisp if that is possible.

We rented a condo close to this place and thought we'd try it for dinner. We each had a bowl of chowder (needed to be thicker and needed more clams) and shared the calamari (on point!). Overall, it was a nice, casual dining experience.

Slumgolian Chowder… YUM!

Highly recommend! I am a clam chowder fanatic, & I was not disappointed! I ordered the Slumgolian Chowder Cannonball… so, so good. You can order the chowder in a dish or a bread bowl. The bread bowl was to die for. They even toasted the part that was cut out to fill. Portions are very filling. My husband ordered the fish & chips & said they were great too. He loves fries & tends to be picky with them, but he gave these a double thumbs up. Service was friendly, we were seated right away (filled up soon after we arrived), & food was incredible. My husband & I agreed this was the best restaurant we ate at on our whole trip. I would go back again in a heartbeat. YUM!

Favorite place to eat!

We went 3 times on our 4 day visit to the coast. It was so good. I had clam chowder each time with a slice of their toast and my 6 year old granddaughter had the hot dog and chips and chicken and chips. We loved the chips as they were not french fries but slices of potato that were fried. They were so good and a cool take on fries. We also had a side salad and it was fresh and delicious too. I had tried another restaurant for their chowder and it was not as good as the Chowder Bowl. We sat outside each time and had a relaxing experience. The servers were all very kind and attentive and the place was very clean. I liked that dogs could accompany their owners on the back deck and they even got a bowl of water served to them. The prices were very reasonable and my only complaint is that there is not a Chowder Bowl in Spokane, WA. I will be back next time I visit!

Generous 3 piece fish and chips, with bread was my husbands choice, with an side of the chowder. My shrimp salad was huge, very generous portion of the shrimp, with the chower included in the price of the salad entree. We were not overy impressed with the chower, it's so-so. Service was good.

Best chowder and fish in town

We just discovered this place and it was fantastic!! Best chowder I’ve ever had and the coconut shrimp was fat, perfectly cooked and delicious. Husband said his fish and chips was the best he’s had too. We will definitely be back next time we are in town! Nice outside seating also. Parking can be an issue.

popular place for seafood in Nye Beach

we were staying in Nye Beach and the wife was craving seafood, so we had to check out the Chowder Bowl. The place is very popular even in the off-season. they also have an outdoor deck for you and your 4 legged friends. wife ordered the Slumgolian Chowder Cannonball which featured creamy clam chowder topped with tiny Pacific Shrimp in a Panini Bakery Sourdough bread bowl. the wife loved it. they have a wide variety menu for those who aren't seafood lovers as well

Best clam strips

My husband didn't agree that this was the BEST chowder we've had so far on the coast but I think it was. Not only the chowder, but the clam strip meal was SO delicious. The clams were huge and lightly breaded, then cooked perfectly. His 'po boy was filled with delicious clams and my son had some really good fish. Good sides and our service was great. No complaints about any of the meal.

Disappointed with dinner

We have eaten here many times before but won’t go back. Our clam chowder was very watery and I got a piece of fish with the skin still in n it. The portions are smaller and the prices higher. Too bad. We looked forward to eating here.

Good fish of the fish and chips

Ordered the fish and chips- VERY pleased with the fish! However the chips were dried out, soggy and greasy unfortunately. The family size clam chowder fed 3 adults easily. Taste was average. Ordered to go and asked for additional condiments and they were very generous. I would give it one more try if in the area again. Quaint restaurant near Nye beach, just steps away. *Side note, the restaurant should really change their chip recipe for the fish and chips... probably the worst chips I've had ever.

Chowder is what I was brought up to call "Clams on a string," all potato starch and few clams. Shrimp wrap edible but unremarkable. Service was fine. The deck was a nice space, and we met two nice dogs.
