We live in Seattle and I've eaten a lot of sushi in a lot of places but I've never had better salmon sushi in my life. I bit it with my lips it was that tender. BEST.

Sushi Okalani is a unique dining experience, nestled away down some steps in a low key setting, offering top quality oriental cuisine. A great range of food and drinks, knowledgable staff and cute 10-person "hideaway" dining rooms wi Japanese style screens, this is a must-do if you're ever in down town Hood River.

Ate here on the power of the previous reviews. Sadly it couldn't hold a candle to another favorite Japanese restaurant that we have enjoyed, The wait staff was helpful and friendly but the food really so-so. Imagine needing to add soy sauce to miso soup to have ANY flavor?!? The edemane were hot and sea salted on top, not cooked... More

My husband and I went here for lunch and had an amazing experience. The chirashi bowls were excellent; very substantial pieces of fish that was fresh and tasty. The salmon sashimi was the best I ever had. Went again for dinner on another day, different sushi chef; still excellent fish but the sashimi portions were definitely a bit smaller. I... More

The downstairs setting is not outstanding, but the food certainly is!! Great selection of wines and beers. We opted for the largest assorted platter for our family of five and everything on it was outstanding. Make sure you share a dessert at the end. Tempura ice cream was amazing. We were disappointed they were out of their signature ginger cheesecake,... More

We snagged the last seats at the sushi bar for an early dinner on a Saturday night in late March. Sushi Okalani doesn't look like much from the outside, but it has a fun decor. The diners were enjoying themselves, and the staff were smiling and joking with each other and the patrons. I like to watch sushi chefs. The... More

This is our family's go to for sushi in town. We love the basement feel, the fresh options using locally sourced fish and other ingredients from local companies. Keep up the Blue Bus Maki!! The only con is we've had some maybe "off" nights, where service/food was slow or inattentive. Usually...it's top notch. Never stopped us from coming back routinely... More

I ate here twice for dinner during a recent visit to Hood River and enjoyed both meals. The chirashi stood out and was well presented. I thought the salmon and eel were each excellent. Service is friendly but a little eccentric, the place is small, happy, and a little loud. Not inexpensive. For me, it hit the spot both times.

Thank Harold D
