Sharing soup – yes you can! Quite a delight to ladle it steaming & fragrant from a huge gleaming silver hot pot! We tried the “most famous of all Thai soups” – Thom Yum Goong – freshly made, and deliciously flavored with shrimp, kaffir lime...leaves, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, galanga root, and fresh lemon grass. Only downside for second helpings was that the soup got cold without a heat source below the hot pot.
For a healthy appetizer with a light crunch, try the fresh salad rolls – attractively served on a nest of bright green lettuce, with a side of creamy, peanut dipping sauce. The transparent rolls are packed with delicate slivers of cabbage, carrots, & glass noodles, capped with a cube of tofu, and flavored exquisitely with a fresh leaf of basil with a surprising zing of anise.
Quite a variety of entrees too – with nice presentations, & your choice of spiciness! We enjoyed the peanut sauce curry with tender chicken, broccoli, cabbage and decorative carrot flower slices. However, the side order of brown rice had absolutely no seasoning. Generous helpings, and too much food to finish though, so we packed leftovers.
Our waitress was exceptionally friendly, and gave excellent service! Food arrived in stages – which allowed for leisurely dining. The booths (only three by the windows) were very comfortable.
The main dining area was spacious with tables and chairs. A good place for conversations, & not noisy. The room looked somewhat formal, with yellow cloth napkins artfully folded into triangles dotting the tabletops. Most notable was the prevalence of groups happily dining around the larger tables!
Parking was limited, with a one-way entry into the small lot. Exiting at night was a problem if you don’t know about the narrow side alley to turn into to get back to the street. Try to see it before you enter the restaurant at dusk!
Overall, this popular restaurant near the University is a fine place to dine – especially for groups where a variety of dishes can be shared, although priced a bit on the high side.More
