My girlfriend and I had dinner there Saturday night. It's a small place really - just 11 tables in the main room. There's also a compact bar area. We were seated right away (we had a reservation; this little place is popular so I highly recommend you get a reservation), and our server was very pleasant and helpful. We're not big eaters - we ordered one entree, one appetizer, and one soup to share between us, and our server recommended we have the dishes in courses rather than all at once, which worked out perfectly. We had time to really enjoy each dish (and avoided having too much stuff crowded on our small table). The appetizer (prawns) had amazing flavor; so did the soup (lobster bisque - just the way it's supposed to be made), and we had time to savor each one. We chose the Jamaican Jerk chicken for our entree, and it was outstanding. You could tell the chef puts a lot of care into each dish he makes. Because we were just about the last diners of the evening, the chef, who I believe is also the owner, stopped by our table and visited with us. He's a friendly gentleman, educated and articulate, and very dedicated to his little restaurant. It was an excellent evening.

We enjoyed a meal here on a Sunday evening. The food was delicious! Menu was small but varied. The three of us shared several appetizers, ordered two entrees and shared two desserts. It was plenty of food and the staff were gracious in accommodating our request to split food orders amongst our table. They seemed to be short staffed but did a amazing job at providing top notch service. We look forward to our next meal here!

We visited Castaways for the first time this winter. We were blown away by the freshness of the seafood and the vibrancy of the flavors. We had eaten elsewhere in town and had been disappointed by the food at some of the other restaurants during this visit. So when we had such a wonderful first time at Castaways, we ate at there for EVERY dinner for the rest of our stay. And we wish we could have stayed longer. :) The chef took time to visit with the guests, even filled water glasses while he chatted. He would share backstory on the current menu items, info on the ingredients, why they were selected, etc. We felt like part of the family by the end of our first meal and are really looking forward to our next chance to visit Cannon Beach dine here again. I think we might just have to reserve a table for our entire visit! ^_^

My family and I spent the morning on the beach and decided to eat lunch. We looked for a decent place to eat and found Castaways. Website and voice mail indicated they were doing takeout, we waited in line for 15 min to order and were told no take out. Ok, no big deal... let’s grab a table and order. We waited patently while the table was sanitized, and sat down. Went back to wait in line to order, about 10 min later we were asked to leave because another guest who had a table requested our table. Seriously??? We were told we could not have that table and we had to go to the back of the line AGAIN and then we could get a table. This all was happening while multiple tables were being grabbed by other families who had not waited in line at all and they were allowed to stay and eat. Definitely felt singled out and we will never be going back again. I understand there are difficulties with managing a restaurant during COVID. Hopefully they can figure out how to manage their issues soon, and this type of treatment doesn’t happen again to other families.

Went here for dinner. Ordered filet mignon asked for it to be well done. Butterflied is fine. Waiter Collin said they can’t do that it’s a good cut of meat. Basically I either order it how they want or get something else. We left instead. With his rudeness and refusal to serve me how I ask it there is no reason to spend 36$ on a piece of meat to not be cooked to my preference.

Others have raved about the food, but faulted the service at Castaways. We found that it took a while to prepare our dinner, but it was worth every second. It is one of a handful of American restaurants we've been to in the entire country that offers "original" food that is as nicely plated as cooked. Indeed, it was like eating for the first time: "Ah, so this is what food should taste like?" Even a chicken skewer appetizer soared with the accompanying sauces. In a surf'n turf town like Cannon Beach which boasts ubiquitous pizzas, fish 'n chips and sandwiches, Castaways is "the" place to find food that's exciting.

We arrived at 5:30, with reservations for 4, and there was plenty of available tables. They filled up fast. Our waiter was attentive and friendly with delightful shoes. The chef did an excellent job of modifying an entree for a special diet. We had an enjoyable time and the owner also visited with us to be sure everything was satisfactory.

The service was great, casual and friendly. Dinner and Cocktails were both reeeeally good! I had seafood linguini and my husband had filet mignon. We both ordered cheesecake for dessert which was little bit of a let down. We’re looking forward to our next visit and we’ll try a different dessert. 🙂

We have loved this place, and we were so looking forward to going back for our fourth time in three years. Unfortunately, it was so disappointing we will not be back, unless things drastically change. The drinks were mediocre, the service was poor and the food too heavy and underwhelming. My wife and I came out of the restaurant feeling bloated. The etouffee was way too heavy on the beef gravy, overwhelming the delicate seafood, the crusted sole was also too heavy for a light delicate fish. The service was the worst we’ve experienced at a high end restaurant. If you are charging $40 to $50 for an entree you have to have decent help. One of the assistants said she was there just helping out the bartender, whom I guess was our server. Well, they really needed a lot more help. We didn’t even entertain ordering a dessert, we just wanted our bill, which took about 30 minutes, so we could forget this dreadful experience. The previous night we went to The Bistro, which was so much better, in every aspect, that it should be number one for fine dining in Cannon Beach. It’s so disappointing when a high end restaurant, such as Castaways, thinks that they no longer have to work and produce a high end product to stay number one. Castaways just tumbled down several spots to about number 10. I’d rather go to Driftwood and pay half the cost and get better service and food! If Castaways continues this downward trend they will be out of business within a year, which is too bad.

The food might be good but when we went the owner/manager. Gentlemen who was behind the register was crazy rude. First we tried to do a takeout because that’s what their voicemail says they do as of today. He was so annoyed we even asked. Like we were stupid.
Then we got our family and sat down. I went to order while my husband sat with my small child. The same guy came out and rudely kicked him out for sitting before ordering. He walked back up and asked me what I wanted. I was confused as to what happened... when I paused he rudely snapped at me to order.
In the time I was standing in line of 4 people. 3 people did what we did and he didn’t say anything. This guy clearly had an issue with our family.
I know Covid is causing tension to be high but he could try and show a little kindness. He acted like he hated his job and hated people. Even after Covid we will not be back. It’s not how you treat people. Stressed or not. Yikes.

Wow! What an absolutely incredible meal! Probably one of the best meals I’ve had all year. Everything was delightful and prepared to perfection. I had the jumbo shrimp and also the potato appetizer while my husband had the pork dish. The food was amazing, wonderful ambiance and we even met the chef who asked how our meal was. Lovely place!

The menu changes frequently based on season or availability. Flavors are on point and if your dish offers a spice level, 4 to 5 stars actually brings the heat. Amazing variety of cocktails that are perfectly balanced. I make it a point to come here every time I visit Cannon Beach. There's a reason why you won't get a table if you don't call in a reservation earlier in the day, this is the real deal.

Castaways is a small restaurant with creative and delicious food. I had the Louisiana Mop entree and it was spicy and flavorful. Portions are generous and service was attentive and friendly.
There are only a few tables, and you need to call the day of in order to secure a reservation. However, if you make the effort you will be rewarded with a great dining experience.
I found most restaurants in and around Cannon Beach to be good but not great. Castaways is great. Highly recommended!

The appetizer we had was terrific, our dinner dishes were good but very saucy. Atmosphere was nice. It was very expensive ($110 for dinners & 1 shared appetizer, not including tip, without alcohol or any other drinks) - that would have been fine if the food had been superb, but it was fine, didn't blow us away.

We were pleasantly surprised by the creative, well prepared dishes (ex. lg sea scallops with a yummy rum-maple- buttered popcorn sauce !, jerk seasoned prawns, tasty pork tostada …). Fresh table flowers, local artworks (for sale) on the walls, well lit dining rm and engaging staff - including the owners - contributed to a welcoming visit. Call for a reservation to assure that the’ll have a spot available for you.
