Let me begin by saying my family and I have been going to Portello for years and it's always been a favorite - their happy hour, bruschetta boards, macaroni and cheese and desserts are amazing. This visit, I called in advance to ask if the...restaurant was seating outdoors. I explained we had a brand new baby days old in the family and we wanted to play it safe with Covid since we would be seeing the baby the next day. The manager, as she introduced herself, said yes to outdoor seating but if it started to rain and the restaurant was full, there's nothing she could do. I told her no problem and we understood. When we arrived, a server at the door told us they were not seating outside. I politely told her the conversation I just had with the manager prior to driving over, so she went to ask the manager. The manager then came outside. With an extremely rude and cold tone, she said "I was who you spoke with on the phone and because it could rain any time this evening, we are not seating outside." When I tried to respond and ask some follow up questions, she simply turned her back on me and began walking back inside, completely ignoring me and my parents when we were clearly not finished with the conversation. I work for a 5 star property in Napa Valley and come from a long line of hospitality professionals. This woman does not belong in the industry and we will not be returning to Portello until we find she is no longer there. We took our business down the block to Washington and they could not have been more accommodating and understanding.More

I used to enjoy Portello in the summers pre-COVID and was happy to support them with a take out order. Never again! I waited at least 10 minutes in a small space between two tables of diners before being acknowledged by staff (far out of...my personal comfort level in regard to COVID safety). No use of hand sanitizer by staff between clearing a table and handing me my order, nor between returning my credit card and going to the next table. I definitely did not find this to be very COVID aware. The food? Also disappointing. The cheese in the grilled cheese was not even melted.More

I would give Portello a 5+ for food, wine and service. Our server was fantastic. However, I will give it a -5 for noise level. Tonight we were there for their Happy Hour and the decibel rating was 100+, which according to my iPhone app...is in the "Danger" zone. We literally had to scream at the person sitting next to us. I also noticed that this place has become the afternoon/early evening gathering place (instead of morning coffee shops) that the "Bend Mamas" come with their noisy kids. I will go back to Portello Winecafe when the weather is warmer and we can sit outside. No more inside seating for me.More

We happened to be in town for their Monday night, all wines $5, and glad we were. They did not skimp on the pour either! Our waitress named Stevie was so friendly and patient. The place was packed but the staff made you feel that...there was no rush. I had the seasonal Ravioli and it was the best I have ever had. Don't forget to order the chocolate soufflé! Great dining experience.More

The place was compact with many wine selections. The tables had chairs, some high some low. The food was excellent and the service was fast and friendly. A very nice and relaxing lunch.

We eat there at least once a week. Service is good, wine list is very good, as is the food. Remembering this is a wine bistro, they have a good selection of bistro fare, including a ravioli special and usually a soup special. Courtney and...her staff are friendly and attentive. Its just a great place to go. It can be crowded and noisy in the evening, but its still a good atmosphere.More

The menu looks fantastic especially the salads. My husband had the happy meat balls and loved them. I had a wonderful salad with butternut squash, quinoa and nuts. The ambiance was great - we ate outside. The waitress was wonderful. We will go back very...soon. There are other salads to try and wonderful panninis too as well as the happy hour menu and the great wine.More

Great tapas and atmosphere. Super wine selection. Fun happy hour bites. Get all dressed up or ride in from your bike ride on Phil's Trail - you will feel at home either way.

Good service, lovely atmosphere, great wines, and some decent bargains on the great wines and/or food on Mondays and at Happy Hour every day. We've been going to Portello since it opened years ago, and it has NEVER disappointed.

Five of us had wine and sandwiches at their Monday night special for $80. Glass of wine is $5.... great selection. Sandwiches were very tasty. The only complaint was the noise. The place was full and lively...so it was a bit loud. Next time we...will go a little later.More

Went here last Monday night. Didn't have too much difficulty getting a table at ~6:30. On Mondays they have all wines for $5 - and they are pretty generous pours. Seems to be a favourite spot for ladies night out, although the noise level was...a little high. Excellent soups and bruschetta in particular. Toasted cheese sandwich was good too.More

Dropped into Portello around 5 on a Tuesday night - place was alive - lots of people and they all seemed to be engaged in good conversation. Ordered a glass of wine and a couple of appetizers. Excellent atmosphere and food was good too. Happy...hour from 4-6 was a great deal - wine only $5 / glass.More

Enjoyed a bit of wine and beer tasting in this fun wine bar in Bend's tony, NW Crossing neighborhood. Beer selection is limited, but they offer a diversity of wines. Also ordered a tasty, but small plate of breads, cheeses, and meats.
