My husband lived in Puerto Rico almost 30 years ago for 2 years. We went here for his birthday, and we all loved it. Things were just as good as he remembered. He cooks some things for us at home, but there are some things he had not remembered how much he loved until he had them again here. Also, wonderful flan and tembleque!

To: The two gals that prepared and served us Friday Oct. 11, 2019.
You all were amazing. Your mofongo and the aguacante relleno con pollo was wonderful and your warmth and friendliness was priceless. Tu comida y personalidades me hicieron extrañar a Puerto Rico. Gracias

I may have eaten traditional Puerto Rican food before, but I think this is my first visit to a Puerto Rican restaurant. Great tasting food. My mother-in-law had the traditional pork ‘stew’ which I tried and was very tasty. I had one of the beef dishes. It was excellent too. The baked cassava flour appetizer was another highlight. I recommend and will return.

I googled the "Best Restaurant in Beaverton" and found Boriken...a restaurant I didn't even realize was there. With high expectations (after reading all the glowing reviews) we made a reservation. It was for a Monday night but reviews made a big deal about everything being cooked fresh so I figured it would be OK. Whether our pork and plantains were left over or cooked fresh..they were so dry that I had no choice but to ask our very pleasant server for some liquid. He brought a small bowl of jus that had some flavor but in reality ( and after adding some jus) the food was almost tasteless.
The fried plantains were so crisp they were like a chip but my experience with plantains is you should be able to at least discern a bit of texture. We tried the bottled sauces on the table and found the white sauce (mayonnaise, catsup and garlic) to be very pleasant and the large bottle (of what we were not sure) to be inedible (which was a first for my husband).
We have eaten all over the world in all sorts of situations so we were certainly not looking for a 5 star meal. A very disappointing dinner even though the environment was welcoming. The interior is warm, nicely decorated and clean but even though I brought my mostly leftover food home, I doubt I will eat it.

I have been going to Puerto Rico since 1970 to visit my grandmother as a child. If my grandmother were alive today, she would tell you the food is horrible. But don't trust my grandmother or my mother or my lifetime of visiting and living in Puerto Rico. Go to Puerto Rico yourself then come back and tell them yourself, that they should be ashamed of claiming they are a Puerto Rican Restaurant. And if you don't want to go to PR, Miami and New York will do just fine. Fooling Anglo's is their business.

Haven been to Puerto Rico Recently I had high expectations. That said my experience was, to put it nicely, “Bland”. It was like eating in my mother’s dinning room and my dad was the cook. The food was authentic but not elevated, A home cook not a chef. Pretty pricey for Dad’s home cooking

Chicken/rice dish was good, beans were very bland, fried plantains were tasty. Excellent service by very knowledgeable young Puerto Rican lady that offered helpful suggestions.

Small restaurant with picnic style tables. Friendly service. Excellent plantains, yellow rice, salmon, and conch stuffed avocado. The coconut flan was a great dessert.

We all had some variant of mofongo. Two of us had it with chicken which was well prepared. My pork tasted as if it was left over from the night before (we arrived at the 1100 opening.) Not sure what to expect from food from Puerto Rico but this didn’t entice me. The coffee from Puerto Rico was $4.95. In the days before the Second Coming of coffee in the Northwest, this would have been exceptional. I can understand the effort that management must have made to obtain this supply but now they are competing with coffee all over the world.

This message is to briananb7 in Beaverton. You parked in our "assigned" parking to go to the Pawn Shop next door. Our spots are clearly marked for the restaurant, including tow away zone by Retriever Towing warning people that non-customer cars will be towed. Through the cameras, we saw you enter the parking, park in our parking, and walk directly to the Pawn Shop. When I came out of the restaurant and told you (not by yelling) that you couldn't leave your car parked at our assigned space, you then asked what type of business we had there. You had no plans to eat at our restaurant nor did any friends join you. You did decide to come in and order something to go so that you could leave your car parked in our space. I spoke with you nicely and again told you where to park for the Pawn Shop. You came back for your order after returning from to the Pawn Shop. You asked my waitress for my name and then went and wrote your review. My husband and I own the restaurant and we take pride in treating our customers with respect. Our parking spots are for our customers. Nothing is more frustrating to a business owner than to have limited customer parking spaces used by non-customers. We could have towed your car but decided to approach you instead.

The service here was awful. I was actually yelled at by Awilda in the parking lot because she thought I was parking without eating here when I was just waiting for my friend so we could eat. I remained silent while she continued to be disrespectful and then she belittled me by saying out loud the definition of a restaurant. I just ordered take out instead and she never apologized. I will not be returning when Awilda is there and hope her manager will train the staff to have better customer service.

The food is authentic and very tasty. I tried the Mofongo, which was served in a wooden bowl. The staff and owners are friendly. A little on the spend side but you won't find this type of authentic Caribbean food anywhere else in the Metro Portland area. It is worth the trip into Beaverton.

Our daughter mention this restaurant to us on our visit to Beaverton. I am from PR and while my husband is Chinese, she knows how much we like traditional Puerto Rican dishes. We tried a couple different dishes such as bictec ensebollado, mofongo, fried plantains, chicharrones de pollo, yellow rice, beans and pastelon. Everything was delicious. The owners were very friendly. The place is too small for such a busy restaurant and it seems to need an extra waitress, but they tried really hard and actually manage quite well.

My wife and I found Boriken on Google Maps and decided to try it because (a) it had a very good rating, (b) the type of food served interests us but is not available where we live and (c) it is located only a short distance from where we were staying.
We were very happy with our choice. The restaurant is very casual, but attractively decorated and quite clean.
My wife and I split an order of chicken empanadillas for a starter. My wife chose the Bistec Encebollado for her main course, while i selected the Bistec a La Criolla. Everything was excellent, and the prices are modest for the quantity and quality of the food. In addition, our server was very good.
Before we left, we talked some with the woman who is the owner, and it was clear that she loves what she is doing. This, we are sure, explains why we so enjoyed ourselves here. Since we are not from the area, we will likely not be returning anytime soon, but we did urge the people we were staying with to try Boriken and/or recommend it to others.

This place was hands down so authentic and the staff was super friendly!! My boyfriend and i went here for my birthday in October. He called and made reservations because we heard ot filled up pretty quick. Which it did after awhile so i suggest a reservation just to be safe. The restaurant only has maybe 15/20 tables, but well worth it. For drinks we got the pina colada and Caribbean romance both were not over powering or over watered perfect for sipping and they were made fresy no mixes which i like!! We ordered the Pastel De Masa Relleno Con Carne Molida for an appetizer. Was cooked perfectly and filled with meat and green olives. Would recommend if you like plantains. Dinner was even better. My boyfriend got the stuffed avocados with pork in the garlic sauce. I got the Chuleta Kan Kan which is like a really crispy pork chop. Everything was so good and flavorful. This rice, pork, and appetizer all cooked perfectly!! The couple who was waiting the restaurant were amazing!! As were they friendly you could tell they care about the restaurant and its customers!! Cant wait to go back and try everything else! Perfect place for date night and to try some good Puerto Rican food!!
