Love, love this place. Quaint, unique, and inviting. It takes the meaning of "local" to another level. Yes, they sell beer and wine here, and that's a great reason to come. Even better is the second half, the Underdog Cafe. They have the best coffees and teas. The Chai Latta is one of my favorites. Absolutely, come for breakfast. Open til noon. The breakfast burrito is the most popular item. But the filling salted rosemary breakfast biscuit is the bomb! Your choice of protein. If you want more or less, they also have awesome muffins and cookies. You can't beat the price here, especially for the quality. Wooden tables and chairs. The walls are lined with books covering many interests. Order at the counter, get a number and food will be brought to you. Also, when done bus your table. The service here is fast and friendly.

Go back to the 1950s and visit Yellow Springs Ohio. Be sure to stop here for delicious coffee and Danish. Antioch College here in yellow Springs is where Coretta Scott King went to school. It’s now home to comedian, Dave Chapelle.

The Underdog Cafe has a wonderful breakfast! The price is affordable and the meal was one of the best breakfast I've had in a long time. I highly suggest giving this place a try.

Stopped in for a hot coffee on a chilly, late March afternoon. Half coffee shop, half beer/liquor/wine store. Place is a bit run down, but the service was ok, and the coffee was decent enough.

This place has a variety of coffees, wines and some pastries. They have a nice selection of used books for sale. You can have a nice coffee break and look at some books.

Stopped in on the way out of town to pick up something for on the road. Found a good variety of breads, cookies, and muffins that change from day to day. Picked up muffins that made outstanding snacks on the road. Did some window shopping thru the wines. An excellent selections of varieties of domestic and imported wines.

Glen Helen may be the soul of Yellow Springs, but the Emporium is the heart. Any time I need to meet with someone, it's at the Emporium. Go on a Friday night for the wine tasting!

This is a funky, cozy, buzzing spot--two former stores connected into one--with the cash register, coffees, and wine on the entrance half, with seating in the Underdog Cafe half. In this warm, funky place gather a lot of regulars as well as stopping-bys who sit and eat and talk, or write as some. You can read a book you bring or pick from the shelf while nursing your coffee or hot chocolate. You can also buy from a variety of packaged coffees. On some afternoons musicians play (in background of second photo). For eats you can choose a wrapped sandwich, breakfast dish including the burrito, or muffins, of which my favorite is the Good Morning muffin, available Monday and Wednesday, but really, all of them are tasty. You can buy the New York Times here. (Yellow Springs, population 3,800 or so, was once cited as having the highest percentage of New York Times readers than any other place, which I can't verify any more, but seems reasonable.)

Good coffee but the staff are consistently grumpy. The baked items are tasty. This is Yellow Springs!

We got there sort of early, but within minutes every table seemed to be occupied. The tables, chairs, . . . everything in there gave a rustic and rough-hewn impression. The menu offered many tempting choices. My breakfast burrito was filling and quite tasty. My wife had the gluten free option (no tortilla). Her gluten free blackberry muffin hit the spot with a cup of coffee (they had many kinds to choose from), as did my gigantic blackberry coffee-cake muffin. There was much to look at in that place. They had locally produced art on the walls. Less than half the space is eatery, over half is a wine shop (incredible selection). There were also books for sale. It definitely was a hit with visitors to Y.S., like us, as well as the locals.

Love this little quirky wine store/library/cafe. The wine/beer selection is excellent and the food is fresh and tasty. Love the local art throughout. Great place to work or meet with friends.

Yellow Springs is full of earnest aging hippies for whom this is the best of all possible coffeehouses -- low-key, slightly shabby, with good food and friendly waiters who let you sit over a cup of coffee and the Sunday paper for a few hours if they know you. What's not to like?
