Great patio setting at this restaurant in the downtown Wooster area. Step up from pub food, with friendly service. Great happy hour specials, both food and beverages.

My husband and I have only eaten in the tavern part of the restaurant. We have enjoyed ourselves each time. I am gluten free, so I have a difficult time eating out. There is not a whole lot on this menu that I can eat; however, my husband and I especially enjoyed the wings. I think they are some of... More

When in Wooster, we head for the outdoor patio at the Olde Jaol Restaurant and Tavern. Shaded tables offer fresh air and quiet for conversation. Nightly specials are an added inducement. Typical bar food, with delicious salads and sandwiches and a small but tasty selection of entrees. The same kitchen serves the more upscale Restaurant (actually in the basement of... More

Great steaks and wine! We love the ambiance of this place. Prices are not terribly unreasonable. We've been to the tavern and the restaurant and recommend the restaurant. It's much nicer.

We’ve eaten at the Olde Jaol several times while visiting the Ohio Light Opera in Wooster, most recently in August, 2016. The Tavern and its patio have been a good choice for lunch. We haven't eaten there this summer, but we did recently dine at the more upscale restaurant in August, and that is the subject of this review. The... More

We attend the last weekend of Ohio Light Opera each year. If your goal is to have a meal where everyone can see you, raucous people are seated three feet away, and you have to nearly shout to be heard across the table, there are other places on the "square" that you can go (been there, done that). If you... More

A pre-theater dinner. We were seated as the restaurant filled with others who were also on a theater schedule. The beet salad was a great treat. The goat chees, locally sourced?, was excellent. The prime rib was a full flavored and generous cut.

Love this place, has a great atmosphere and large menu! I love the shoestring fries and the Raspberry Lemondrop Martini! Service was a little slow, our waitress wasn't old enough to serve the alcohol so we had a couple of different people at our table.

If you are looking for bar food and tasty drinks, this is your place. The Jaol has been around for years, but the good and drink are consistent.

In from out of town, local friends took us to the tavern. Server, Erica, was on Week 2 of the job and is on her way to being great. She handled our party nicely and knows customer service very well. Food, while slow coming out of the kitchen, was tasty. There were lots of TV's and we watched the Tribe... More

Description
The Olde Jaol facility was built in 1865, and was claimed to be the finest sheriff facility of its kind. In 1977 the Wayne county sheriffs department was relocated across the street to a new facility. Subsequently, the old jail was registered as a historical landmark in 1980 and in 1995 The Olde Jaol Steakhouse / Tavern was given life. We have an excellent reputation for quality and service.Today, the Olde Jaol houses the finest in food and hospitality. We recommend our Certified Angus Beef® steak entrées. Only 8 percent of beef is tasty enough to meet the brand’s high standards. It’s simply the tastiest, juiciest, most tender beef you’ll ever have.
