My husband and I have been going to Gandalf's Pub for many years. The atmosphere always helps me relax and is fun. The food is amazing! The Irish classics are all amazing, but we LOVE to try all of the new specials. Having gone to...this restaurant many, many times, it is upsetting for me to see these recent negative reviews that do NOT characterize what Gandolf's is. We all know that restaurants are struggling now to find help and we all need to be patient as people are trained, etc. I know for certain that if you would have respectfully given feedback to management, they would have taken care of you. Don't let the inconsiderate reviews deter you, Gandolf's Pub is one of the best restaurants in the area. Definitely recommend!More

It was our first time visiting. A female server arrived; she was not friendly. She did not greet us with her name. The setting was not welcoming. It took a while for our order, and she forgot the appetizer. Our server failed to follow up...with us to see if we needed anything. I asked another employee to summon her; we were ready to leave. Now, she was attempting to be friendly with excuses on why she was not able to wait on us timely. We will not be returning, nor recommend to anyone. Nonetheless, we left the appropriate tip.More

Friends recommended we visit. The pub itself is quaint, local entertainment was good( ( Sunday afternoon) however food was not what we expected. The portions were good. The fried walleye was not good and not sure it was completely cooked. As we’re about to leave...we over heard the couple across from acclaim their same meal was mushy and not completely cooked… it was busy but no excuse. Last visit for us.More

My now husband took me to Gandalf’s when we first met and I absolutely loved this place! Great food and service wasent bad. I thought this place was a gem in the middle of town. We went back with our family recently and we’re greeted...by the hostess with a dirty look and a comment of “it’ll be about a 25 minute wait, name?” We then waited a half hour, mind you we had three children and a newborn, we were told to wait outside which was right by a busy street. The patio had 6 tables that’s really clean and ready to seat out party, yet we waited a half hour. My kids and I went into the restaurant to use the bathroom on our wait and we’re stopped by a server who questioned us if we were eating there because if not we were not allowed to use the restroom. We stated we would like to eventually eat but we’ve been waiting for a half hour now. So she proceeded to let us use the restroom. As I was in the restaurant I noticed a ton of tables were cleaned inside and ready to seat as well. No reason why we should have waited outside for a half hour..as we were walking back out the server stated to us we’ll be seated shortly, that she didn’t know we were waiting outside! We were sat on the patio directly in the sun while there were other tables in the shade, I asked if we could have a table in the shade and the hostess looked and me and just walked away. We also asked for a sling for our baby and was brought a high chair. Our sever was very unpleasant and we never received drinks. After waiting for about an hour total we decided to go across the street to samoskys! Which was day and night compared to the treatment we received at Gandolfs. Sadly to say we will never return here again nor recommend this place.More

Love sitting on their patio! Limited menu but everything is good - from the Shephards Pie to Reubens to fish fry. Service is hit or miss.

We have eaten here before and had a good meal. This time was a total disappointment. We both ordered the corned beef boxty. It was edible, but just barely. This is not presented like the typical boxty. There were two (overcooked and dry) square hash...brown patties, topped with sauerkraut and corned beer, and drizzled with thousand island dressing. Husband insists it was not corned beef, but rather Canadian bacon. Hard to tell, as it was dry and tough. It was definitely not thinly sliced and juicy corned beef, that’s for sure. The sauerkraut was spicy (at least that’s where I think the heat was coming from). The whole thing was so dry we both asked for more dressing to mix in with it. It was not the usual boxty where the hash brown potatoes and moist and wrapped around the filling. I think the hash browns were cooked a long time before the dinner as they were tough and had to be cut with a knife. DON’T GET THIS MEAL!! Our friends got the trout (two nice sized fillets with sides of roasted Brussel sprouts and sweet potato cubes) which she loved, and the porterhouse steak, which he loved (cooked rare and a HUGE portion of steak and a HUGE potato). We got the soup as the side and it was delicious - an artichoke/cheddar soup with bacon bits. It was something neither of us had before and very good. Service was great, as Ashley took good care of us. The patio was delightful and spaced appropriately for COVID protection. I don’t know that we will be back - and if we do go back we will NOT order the “corned beef” boxty.More

The owner Sean does an outstanding job of providing quality and authentic food. Terri, behind the bar, is the best. We are regulars here and always look forward to going back. If it is your first time, I recommend the short rib boxty!

Since we can’t go out to eat during the pandemic, some of our local restaurants are shining with their take-out service. Gandalf’s Pub is one of them. We even ordered dessert that included ice cream. When we brought it home , it was still intact...and ready for the freezer until we were done with our dinners, which by the way were delicious. I would recommend Gandalf’s for takeout or anytime once we can get back to dine in service.More

Burger night, half of tables were empty & still took 45 mins to get burgers! Started with Waitress forgot to come get our order. I think she also forgot to put in our order. The few tables around us came after & got their meals...before us. Then burger came withe the "sauce". No compensation. The burgers that my husband & I got we're good. However if I am there for "burger night" it shouldn't take 45 mins! Was our 1st visit & probably the last.More

The Pub has a real treasure in its beautiful and ornate bar. So of course we decided to sit at the bar and enjoy the view. We ordered the Burger Special and diet cokes...they hit the spot. Love these small town restaurants with friendly people....Parking is limited. We recommend a visit to Valley City.More

First visit, sat at bar, very friendly staff Jenny and Terry R. waited on us. The patrons were all very nice especially Howard. He had frequented another one of our favorite places to eat which we at the next night and told the bartender Howard...said hi! Food was good, very well priced. Atmosphere both inside and out side outstanding. We will be back! Carol and DaveMore

Without question Gandolfs has the best burger in Medina county. Several options from which to choose but the tell of a good burger is what it tastes like without all trimmings. Exquisite. Also, the patio is a great shaded area to spend a summer night.

We came here for dinner after work on a Friday evening around 5:20pm. We were seated right away. We were waited on right away by Terry R. We had the loaded tater tots appetizer which were great! Hubby had the corned beef boxty and I...had the bangers and mash. Lots of food so we had to take some home. Terry checked on us multiple times and we were never without a drink. She was great! I would definitely recommend having dinner here and we will be back!More
