Miami Valley's Secret on the Trojan Square

Once you navigate the downtown Troy roundy-bout and find a parking space you'll be rewarded w/ a 5 Star experience. We had a party of four and our server was efficient and perfectly timed all the way. It was Thursday which is prime rib night , so- order up, you won't be disappointed. Two of the diners chose the Caroline Salmon salad and reported it to be as described on the menu. The management has been careful not to take the entree pricing off chart while still delivering top quality foods. Smart business model on the N border of the Dayton market.

Absolutely delicious

I had the halibut, my husband had the 10 oz steak, both meals were perfectly prepared. Our drinks arrived quickly, and salads with bread shortly after. Everything was spot on prepared. The chocolate cake was so good - and Kennedy even brought us more whipped cream to finish the cake off. lol. She was that observant! The reviews that are on this site are from a year ago - and right in the middle of the "pandemic". Somehow, reviews over a year old should be dismissed. That was then, this is now.

Wonderful Holiday Party - Delicious Food/Great Service

I have to compliment The Caroline and their staff. We selected The Caroline for our employee holiday party, and it was so nice. Kylee managed to get us in with just a few weeks notice and arranged everything for our party of 23. She helped us to craft our menu, including what appetizers and desserts we wanted, how we wanted to handle drinks, and what time we wanted the event to start. Employees had a limited choice of filet mignon, maple glazed salmon, chipotle pork chop, or chicken alfredo. Every single person said their dinner was delicious. The night of our event, someone was out sick but Chelsea handled our party of 23 with ease. The food came out promptly and the service was great. What a wonderful night and such great food. So glad to have The Caroline in Troy. Thank you to The Caroline and their staff for making our event amazing.

Out of the Special at 6:30 PM? Overdone steak; Overcharged on the bill

We were seated immediately, ordered drinks and an appetizer. We were given a printed menu that had a list of the nightly specials, so we ordered the special. Our server came back, and said the kitchen was out of the special. If you've taken the time to print the specials on a menu, how are you out so early in the service? How do you not prepare enough of the special to get you through the evening? Very disappointing to have to go back into the menu and find something else, when it's not what you want. My second choice, a steak, was ordered Med., but it came out cooked Med. Well to Well Done with little to no pink. I was overcharged for the premium side, but by that time, I decided it was pointless to discuss it. The server didn't offer to wipe up the table when my date's drink was spilled on the table and the menu. My date had to ask for our eating utensils and napkins. So, no special, overdone steak, overcharged for the side, and all the rest. Why would we ever recommend this place, or ever go back?

Mediocre Main Event Offsets Near Perfect Supporting Cast

This is one where I wish I could give half rounds as The Caroline falls between 3 and 4 rounds. Everything about this place pointed to a great experience - the building is beautiful, the folks are friendly, the salads served on colt metal plates with excellent homemade dressings, the sides - especially the bourbon mushrooms - were excellent as was the steak and potato soup. Both the main dishes were quite mediocre. The salmon, beautifully scored with precise grill marks, had a nice maple glaze, which was overpowered by the bland taste of the fish itself. The 6 ounce filet, ordered medium rare, came out closer to medium well and it predominately tasted of charcoal. It was actually somewhat tough. The server never asked if the meals were prepared properly. If we ever return, I would be going the small plates route with appetizers, soups and salads.

Have eaten here other times with satisfactory results. This time was on a quiet weekday evening. This time the pork chop was tough as leather and I got charged for both a side and an upgrade that I didn't order. Unfortunately, the server never bothered to ask about my meal. What a shame.....

Anniversary dinner, not like it used to be

Very poor. This used to be our favorite restaurant. Hadn’t been here since January & even then it wasn’t as good as what it used to be. Ahi Tuna clearly was prepared long ago & stored in fridge instead of freshly made both times. I’m old school & used to wait tables & cook. Just not appropriate to wear inch long fake nails or poor eye makeup at an upscale restaurant like this. Mainly disappointed about my ribeye that was made twice & still not correctly made. Asked for medium. Both were medium well to well. The first was burnt on one side. The other was pan fried & chewy. The waitress only checked once on us & removed the steak only & only when asked. Very disappointed

This is a lovely restaurant. The food is extremely overpriced for the quality. Quality of food was actually below average. Our table was just inside the door, allowing extremely cold air to fill dining room each time the door was opened. Not really what you should experience for 120.00 meal for 2.

Super friendly and efficient staff, nice décor, but the food... Nice presentation but no taste... The mushrooms, as an appetizer, were really tasteless... no flavour at all. The meat of blackened steak salad was bland (but cooked to perfection) and the dressing ordered was missing. I travel a lot for work & this restaurant was disappointing.

Trying something new!

Loved this place. Friendly people and great food. Like all businesses they are under staffed and where so proud to see the head lady's young niece and nephew helping out. We need more kids like that!! I had Margherita flatbread and my wife stuffed portabella mushrooms. Wine and beer wrapped it up. I do not think price was high for quality of food and service. We will return next year.

Phenomenal entree salads!

We were in town for an Irish dance competition and were looking for a local restaurant for dinner. After checking out reviews for local eateries, we decided on The Caroline. We're so glad we did. We all had entree salads . . . Blackened Steak Salad, The Caroline Salad and Caesar Salad. We were all thrilled with our meals. The ingredients were fresh and absolutely delicious!!! One in our group tried the Jalapeno Margarita . . . said it was the best she ever had! Our server, Dayna, was lovely . . . extremely efficient and attentive. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed. We would definitely go back to The Caroline and try some of the other items on the menu. We highly recommend!!!

Last time was really poor. Worst food ever. With that said, I learned to not get the fish! This time got a nice steak. It was prepared perfectly. Meat was tender, potato was hot, everything was great!

Came to The Caroline to celebrate two anniversaries and two birthdays. There were ten of us and we sat at the bar. The staff could not have been nicer. Kylee and the rest of the staff went above and beyond to make this a special night. The restaurant was busy but they made this a special night for all of us.

Fantastic spot for a great night out. The Manager Kylie was great as was our waitress Jackie...their attention to detail for us was wonderful. The food is incredible. I had the Caroline House Steak & it was one of the best I've ever had. Save room for the chocolate cake too...delicious! Great atmosphere, very nice bar area and the rest of the staff assists one another which you rarely see these days. Spend your next dinner night there, you'll be glad you did!

Great Place for Date Night-Good Food-Good Service

My wife and I had a function in Tipp City and wanted some place to eat afterwards. There are several good places to eat in Troy. We looked at Basil on Main, which unfortunately had a fire is closed for awhile. The Caroline was an easy substitute. We had eaten there once before and food was outstanding. I made reservations for 5:45PM for the Saturday night. We traveled from Tipp to Troy to the square where the Caroline and many other dining and drinking establishments are located. Only problem,parking is precious and we had to park behind The Caroline and walk a block. When we arrived we found there were 3 spots close but would have had to know where to turn in since it is on a roundabout. On entering we were immediately greeted by the host who said being early 5:30 vs 5:45 wasn't a problem. He tried seating us at a 2 person table but it would have been crowded so we gave us a 4 person table. The dining room in which we sat was 3/4 full with a table next to us that had been there several times which they noted by their discussions. We sat down and immediately were greeted by our Waitress, Chelsea. She was a go getter in that she was very busy. I don't know if other waitress/waiters didn't come in when they should,but it was apparent that she was serving more than a couple of tables as well as other rooms. My wife ordered their Premium Long Island and I ordered a Vodka/Gin Martini with olive. Chelsea didn't seem taken by surprise when I order the combo. She asked if I preferred a specific Vodka/Gin and stated not a real expert on those so the Well Liquor would suffice. At the same time we ordered the Crab Cakes as starter, We weren't rushed, which too many times seemed to be the case in restaurants. After while we received crab cakes with small accoutrements of salad and thousand island type dipping sauce. The crab cakes weren't huge but you had more crab in them than stuffing so worth the price $16 for two. After we that we ordered our entrees and sides. My wife ordered the glazed salmon 8 oz. Atlantic salmon filet,prepared medium, and basted with our whiskey-maple glaze ($29) with baked potato and salad while I order the Caroline Steak - Seasoned 10 oz. Certified Angus Beef® sirloin prepared to your specifications. Finished with garlic butter and tangled onion rings {$30) with salad and green beans. Our salads weren't huge but perfect to go with the meal. The had an interesting bread with salad - it looked like pretzel bread but had rye in it and very good. The entrees came and we dug in. Food was excellent - the steak was already seasoned so would suggest try before adding any seasoning. I added a little pepper but salt wasn't needed. With the meal we had a Rose which was perfect for both our meals. The timing of the service was good, not too fast you could enjoy your meal. Areas which would have been better was lighting. The menus are printed on Yellow background with printing fonts that make it difficult to read depending on where you are sitting. Some tables appeared to have better lighting than others. The arrangement of the information wasn't easily found - the sides with the meal were at the top in small light font while dressings for salad was on one side of menu vs other. Would suggest someone look at menu's - there were 3 - drink, special, main and put them on different background with readable print. This is being rather picky but it would make the dining experience much better. Was great dining experience Chelsea was excellent, the other wait staff were responsive to picking up your dishes when finished and we weren't rushed. The total bill was $110 + tax and tip.
