We ended up here after during The Docks and not being able to get a seat because they were short staffed and had a long wait, even though the restaurant was mostly empty. We didn’t know this is a non profit about food sustainability, and...how it worked. The have a beautiful restaurant with a very limited menu, but everything was amazing. It is a pay what you can and no one is turned away. Everyone is volunteer and all tips go to the nonprofit. They had a recommended pay amount of $5 for kids meals and $10 for adults. Not a lot of options, nothing fried, no sodas only unsweetened tea and water. They did go out of their way to get a little bit of milk for the two girls. We had water. The girls had a cheese pizza and grilled cheese and chips. I had Cobb salad and he had a flatbread chicken bbq. All was AMAZING! The dressing for the salad was the best and tasted 100% homemade. Everything tasted super fresh and everyone cleaned their plates!More

We ran across this restaurant via a Google map search and we’re so happy we went there! It’s a pay-what-you-can restaurant, so people who can’t afford it aren’t turned away. Those who can pay extra do so. The food was great. I had a chicken...salad croissant sandwich and tomato soup and both were excellent. The portions were just right for lunch, so no food was wasted.More

The "Pay it Forward" concept is fantastic! Three of us had lunch there and the food was great, and the volunteer waitresses friendly and helpful. It's so nice to know that the little extra we added will help someone else who can't afford the meal....I wish we lived closer because this little restaurant is a place well worth visiting over and over.More

We had the burger and the tuna salad and both were great. The special aspect of this restaurant is that my meal fed someone who could not afford a meal. Please go visit this restaurant and pay it forward! Blessings.

Having been engaged in the non-profit sector for the past 15 years I am well aware that some non-profits assume their noble mission provides them with leeway in performance, service or quality. Not so Bistro 163. Yes, the mission is inspiring and progressive but please,...just go for the food. This is one of Port Clinton's best restaurants. My hope is that they can expand to offer dinner as well. Well done and thank you!More

It was a wonderful dining experience. The food is great. It is primarily staffed by volunteers. The ambiance is warm. The bill payment is donation only so one can "pay forward" for those people less fortunate and not able to pay for a decent meal.

This is one of my favorite little gems of a restaurant. First, the food is just outstanding! Our family split the the Spinach Artichoke Flatbread, Pecan Chicken Salad, Tuna Salad, Burger, Grilled Cheese - and each was absolutely delightful - flavorful with their own unique...flair! Second, the service was just amazing. We had a volunteer couple serving us and they chatted with us about the local community, the concept for the restaurant, and were absolutely wonderful to meet. It felt like coming over to your best friends house for dinner - warm and inviting! And lastly - their approach to the community - from sustainable foods to their 'pay it forward' concept with suggested meal prices is just a wonderful way to come together as a community. I can't recommend this little bistro enough!More

I love this restaurant and everything about it. Good to know before you go... it's a pay it forward restaurant. The chef is spectacular, and the wait staff are all volunteers. You can make a charitable, tax deductible contribution, and/or leave a tip. All tips...and contributions go toward feeding programs. The food is delicious. My personal favorite is the salmon in a bag, made with white wine, bitter and lemons and a really nice side salad. The cost for this meal is $8. A bargain!More

My wife and I stopped by today having found Bistro 163 on Yelp. It deserves all the good reviews it's gotten there. The restaurant is a non-profit that will feed people in return for their volunteering at the restaurant. Menu prices are "suggested". Don't let...any of this steer you away. The restaurant is well appointed, the service is great, and the food is even better. My wife had the chicken salad plate and I had the Bistro Burger. Both were above average. The restaurant my be a bit difficult to find for out-of-towners. Our Google directions took us to the apartments next door. Bistro 163 is in an old strip mall next to the police station. We'd recommend Bistro 163 to anyone.More

We had a wonderful lunch at Bistro 163; food was fresh & healthy; service was friendly & helpful. The place is bright @ cheerful. The cafe is a “pay-forward” restaurant designed to build the community by nourishing both body & soul and preparing/ serving food...with faith, love, & kindness. So if you can afford to pay, the idea is to add some extra to help those who cannot pay to secure a healthy & hearty meal. Those getting a free or low cost meal are encouraged to volunteer to assist the restaurant staff, all of whom are also volunteers. It’s just a great idea and was clearly working as the place was jammed for lunch last week. Moreover, the food is prepared daily using local sources, and tastes delicious. So all at the same time you can have a great lunch and help the community.More

We've been wanting to try this restaurant, but always seemed to show up when it was closed (the only downside - limited hours). We are so glad we managed to eat there today! On arrival, the volunteer who seated us gave us a little history...of the restaurant and its mission to serve people with food insecurity through a pay-it-forward payment plan. Then two middle-school-aged students took our orders and delivered our food. Great to see young people involved in social service! My black-bean-stuffed sweet potato with lime avocado sauce was very tasty, and my husband enjoyed his cup of mulligatawny stew and half a grilled-cheese sandwich. We shared a bowl of bread pudding, which was plenty for two. The menu was large and varied, and the prices reasonable. Diners are asked to pay what they can, and include a little extra if possible to help the needy. We were more than happy to pay more for an excellent meal. Great service, in more ways than one! Thanks, Bistro 163!More
