1833 is a bright and cheerful spot on the southeast corner of Oberlin's Tappan Square. A LEEDS designed restaurant, it features a colorful central bar (with its own dining tables), traditional and private dining spaces and a casual lounge area where one could have a...beverage and snack. While there is a lot of color and light, the furnishings are quite simple and spare with a lot of hard surfaces which may amplify the noise level. However, we did not really find it off-putting and our dinner conversation was not impeded. The menu was not overly large but it provided something for every taste - Lake Erie walleye, trout, several beef and chicken choices, vegan selections and a nice assortment of starters and sides. The staff was more than willing to accommodate with no upcharge those who wished to share dishes. Standout selections at our table included a roasted beet root and poached apple salad, steak tip stroganov, ale battered walleye, pan roasted chicken breast. Service was very good, prices reasonable. The drinks menu was very enticing but none of us was in the mood to imbibe. Water was great though!More
