Love 1833! We discovered 1833 a few years ago when the Oberlin Inn was renovated. Our experiences here have always been great! We sit at the bar and enjoy brunch. We usually Start with a Bloody or a bottle of Cava and then onto a wide range of brunch items. My recent visit included an outstanding wedge salad and the meat, onion and cheese scramble. Hubby had a chorizo hash and loved it. Haven’t had dinner here yet but just looked at the new menu and plan to come back soon! Staff is extremely friendly!

Very nice restaurant and bar. Creative food combinations and excellent drinks. With breakfast we were given the option of a simple salad instead of hash browns. French toast is good. At dinner time we started with the corn and bacon dish. It was yummy. They allowed for food edits. Ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner there in the same day. All was good.

This is one of my favorite places to eat. My husband and I make the 25 minute drive to Oberlin several times a month to dine here and whenever we have visiting family, we bring them here as well. The food is always consistently delicious. They change up the menu regularly. The cocktails are very well made. I recommend the bullet with butterfly wings cocktail and creme brûlée. My husband is crazy about the Walleye. Can’t go wrong with the 1833 burger.

They offered a prix fixer menu with choices including prime rib, trout and a vegetarian mushroom dish. There were 4 courses including dessert. The food was outstanding. The prime rib was some of the best I have had. The waitress was attentive and the atmosphere was cheery.

The hotel is nice and, clean and well designed. The restaurant is a plus but the fact that they only serve breakfast during the weekend is kind of frustrating. One has to go out to find coffee and breakfast. The restaurant is fine but one has to reserve during the weekends because it is always crowded.

Located on the ground floor of the Hotel at Oberlin, 1833 was the perfect way to end our journey to the school. Atmosphere was relaxed and the food was great. Had the Steak Frites and shared a mac/cheese. Both standards and both were great. Would go back again.

I had lunch in the 1833 restaurant down in the lobby on a Saturday and it was good but a little pricey, $5.00 for a single pancake!

Thank you for dining in 1833 during your stay at The Hotel at Oberlin. I apologize that the experienced value did not meet your expectations, however, I am glad to know that the meal itself was enjoyable. We look forward to welcoming you again.

1833 is a bright and cheerful spot on the southeast corner of Oberlin's Tappan Square. A LEEDS designed restaurant, it features a colorful central bar (with its own dining tables), traditional and private dining spaces and a casual lounge area where one could have a beverage and snack. While there is a lot of color and light, the furnishings are quite simple and spare with a lot of hard surfaces which may amplify the noise level. However, we did not really find it off-putting and our dinner conversation was not impeded. The menu was not overly large but it provided something for every taste - Lake Erie walleye, trout, several beef and chicken choices, vegan selections and a nice assortment of starters and sides. The staff was more than willing to accommodate with no upcharge those who wished to share dishes. Standout selections at our table included a roasted beet root and poached apple salad, steak tip stroganov, ale battered walleye, pan roasted chicken breast. Service was very good, prices reasonable. The drinks menu was very enticing but none of us was in the mood to imbibe. Water was great though!

So many choices all prepared perfectly. It is a home cooked dinner. We have visited many times, our 3rd Thanksgiving. Will come more often too!

We had dinner at the Oberlin hotel for Thanksgiving dinner buffet. Everything at the buffet was labeled with the ingredients. EXCEPT the cupcake whose frosting was fully peanut butter. My brother who has a deathly allergy to peanuts ate a whole bite of this cupcake. We had to administer epi pen, the managers were completely lethargic with their reaction to my brothers ailment and the chef made excuses and tried to blame US, when everything else in the entire buffet was labeled. Horrible horrible horrible, their lack of care and inadequate reaction to my brother going into anaphylactic shock was absolutely inexcusable and I do not recommend this restaurant. My brother is a senior at Oberlin, if my parents were not here to administer his epi pen I do not believe the wait staff would have been prepared to help him. They should be penalized for ruining not only our Thanksgiving but for putting my brothers life in danger. Shame on them.

I downgrated my overall rating because of the noise.
I liked the food. Appetizers were delicious -- the deviled eggs were great, and I loved the crispy brussels sprouts. I had "Mac N Cheese" as my entree. It lived up to my hopes for a comfort food meal. It had a subtle flavor from real bacon bits; I couldn't taste the jalapenos in the cheese. The portion was student-sized; so I took half home and enjoyed it again the next day!
Regarding the noise level, I was with a group that had a room off to the side. The decor was pleasant, but the noise was not. The tables looked bright and cheerful in white, but their surface was hard and contributed to the high level of noise. It was hard to hear the man sitting next to me. I wish 1833 would do something to mitigate the noise, which seriously detracts from the otherwise excellent dining experience.

Great place to go for a celebration or just to entertain friends. Good bar to grab a drink before dinner. Nice menu to choose from and we especially enjoyed the break the bread basket and Brussels sprouts.

My teen daughter and I ate breakfast and social hour here and the food was fresh, delicious and well prepared. There was a good variety, and I do believe someone who eats gluten and dairy-free could eat here. I found the prices to be reasonable - it is not a cheap place, but it is not overpriced.

We stayed overnight at the Hotel at Oberlin, so we made the decision to eat breakfast at 1833 before we headed out of town. Just like the entirety of the hotel, the restaurant was modern and well-kept. I had a Belgian waffle with assorted berries on top, which was great all-around. Oh, and the coffee was good, too. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good breakfast establishment in Oberlin, especially to any travelers staying in the hotel.
