Our group of six ate at the restaurant last Saturday evening. The ambiance and décor of the restaurant was amazing. The service is very good. The menu has a variety of specialty items which make your choice difficult but excellent choices. Everyone except for two commented on how great the entrées were, scallops, sea bass, and tomahawk rib eye steak . The two that ordered prime rib and both individuals commented on how tough the prime rib was. Both of us that had ordered prime rib have ordered the entrée in a lot of restaurants and have never run across a cut that was like the one we got at Alcove so I do not recommend the prime rib. The restaurant is worth the drive from Columbus and we would go back again.
The restaurant has a full service bar available and on street parking only is available.

My wife surprised me with a two night stay at The Grand Hotel. She chose the Alcove for dinner. As we travel Ohio a lot, I was impressed with having such a great restaurant in a small town. Right from the start, the Hostess's (Grace) professionalism, the waitress's (Dawn) attention to detail, the server's (Mason) delivering of our food made me wonder why the Alcove isn't one of the top restaurants in Ohio. The food, oh my, this was one of memorable meals that we have had in a long time. It was so memorable that we ate at the Alcove the second night. Positive words can not say enough about the Alcove. We live one hundred miles North of Mount Vernon, but we will try to eat here once a month.

My birthday was last week and when my husband asked me where I wanted to go and celebrate~I told him The Alcove (I had eaten lunch there once several years ago) but my husband had never eaten there. We had reservations for 6:00 but we arrived a little early and they seated us right away. We ordered two appetizers~the shrimp cocktail which were huge and very tasty and the fondue with bread pieces and cut up veggies. Both were excellent! I ordered the prime rib , medium with a baked potato and salad for my sides. Everything was excellent! My husband had the scallops with brussel sprouts and he loved his meal, too. We each had a drink with our dinner (he a martini and me an amaretto with cranberry juice) and kudos to the bar tender for those good drinks!. Our waitress was very attentive and kept up with several tables around us as well. We enjoyed our dinner and the atmosphere your restaurant gave us :)

Went here with my wife. We heard the food was good. I got the prime rib. I wish that I would have took a picture. Literally, half of the prime rib was inedible fat and gristle. Plus, the meat was barely warm. The au-jus was the worst I've ever had. It looked like a light colored chicken stock with absolutely no taste. The horseradish sauce barely had any horseradish in it. My wife's scallops were very rubbery and over cooked. The meals cost over $100 Probably won't be back. The creme brûlée was very good! It is very hard to find a good restaurant with consistency now a days. Very disappointing.

Beautiful restaurant, very pricey. I ordered the swordfish and was a bit disappointed with the sauce they put over it (I just scrapped it off) and really didn't care for the bean side dish. My husband order the steak and potato and he said it was awesome. Expensive meal so wish I had ordered the steak. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff was excellent!

Our experience today at The Alcove was outstanding in every way. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous after a multi-million dollar renovation and it shows in all the beautiful finishes and details. Staff from the welcome to the information about the town to the food service was welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The food was delicious — french onion soup, Caesar salad, sea bass and salmon Oscar — all perfectly prepared. Cocktails were inventive and beautifully done. Creme brûlée for dessert — yum! The Alcove has it all together. Please don’t miss it. It’s a jewel in a lovely small town with a lot to offer.

I am going to write this evening off as just a bad night for Alcove. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. We are from out of town and was meeting our family for a celebration dinner. We did have a party of 8, but that shouldn't have made that much of a difference. The restaurant was full, but didn't seem overly crowded. 6 of us ordered steaks and the remaining seafood. Our reservation was at 6:30, but it was 8 before our food arrived. When the food was served, the seafood was cold and had to be sent back. Every steak was either over cooked or undercooked...I don't think that anyone at the table had a good experience with their meal. We did have to send the seafood back, but the rest of us ate what we could of our meals. We didn't want to send them back, because we didn't know if we would see our food again. Now I don't mind laying down $300 for a meal, but I expect a little more out of it when I do. After looking at other reviews, I am thinking that we were just there on an off night.

I would just like to reach out and personally apologize for the experience you had. That is definitely not the kind of service and quality we want at The Alcove. We are actively working on increasing the speed at which our food is served, and we will be sure to communicate all of this to management. If you're in the area, please give us another chance. We would be happy to give you the experience you deserve! Thank you for understanding that it may have been an "off" night for us. We will most certainly strive for better. -Donovan C. The Alcove never disappoints. The ambiance is second to none- warm, rich , & inviting. The service is top notch. Our server Hannah was very knowledgeable of the menu, attentive ( but not overly) , friendly and efficient. She even inquired if we had tickets to the theater production across the street to ensure we weren’t rushed. The food was so delicious. I had the salmon, cooked to my specification accompanied by asparagus- also cooked to perfection. The menu varies by season and we were so happy to see the return of the Sake Sea Bass served over shrimp dumplings with vegetables and mushrooms. Absolutely delicious.

I can’t say enough good things about our visit to The Alcove in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. The restaurant is beautiful with chandeliers and upholstered seating. The treatment from our server, Dawn, was exceptional. She took care of our every need, was very attentive, and made recommendations that were excellent choices. The food was beyond delicious! The chef excelled in preparing food with superb taste, appearance and delectability. For a real dining experience, not just eating out, I would highly recommend The Alcove.

We moved to the area about a year ago and have been trying all of the local restaurants. The staff here are absolutely wonderful. The dining area is beautiful. The restrooms were very clean and well-stocked The food was wonderful. I had the prime rib and my husband had shrimp linguini. I cannot remember the name of our appetizer. I will post the pictures I took later. Everything we had was delicious. While the price was a little on the high side, it matched the atmosphere. Great for a date night. I wouldn't bring small children as it would spoil the atmosphere which is a big part of the experience.

Amazing ambience! Looks fresh, but period for the building. Wonderful cocktails… The General Washington is a must for the gents, while the Alcove Peach is one for the ladies. Thoughtful menu that changes with the the seasons. Steaks, seafood, oysters (Rockefeller were wonderful), salads, and soups. Hanger steak is not found many places, but The Alcove has it. Excellent service all around. Pleasant experience.

We are new to the area and went to The Alcove expecting a gem. The ambiance and look of the restaurant is really lovely and our wait staff couldn’t have been better. The cocktails were good. The food was another story. The best thing we had were the starter salads. I had prime rib and my spouse had the sea bass. The prime rib had that odd taste that hamburger has when you’ve left it in the refrigerator too long and you’re not sure if it’s still ok to cook or not. The mashed potatoes were luke warm and had very little flavor. My husband’s sea bass was rubbery and even though the portion was small, he didn’t finish it. The desserts we took home were also a disappointment. The cheesecake was just ok but the apple ‘crisp’ was awful. No ‘crisp’ was found, just a bunch of rubbery apples. That was a one and done for us at The Alcove. I would expect so much more for $125.

This was a great find in Mount Vernon! The decor and staff were classic! This reminded us of restaurants we used to go to years ago for special occasion. The staff was friendly and efficient. The food was served hot and fresh. Very tasty! We had the filet mignon, the scallops and the salmon. All were cooked perfectly except one filet which was whisked away without hesitation and replaced. Otherwise the food was delicious. Highly recommend!

Great fine dining atmosphere (5 star). Very good Hospitality focused Staff (4+ star). Scallops and Sea Bass perfectly (bit undercooked as requested) cooked and garnished. An Issue for all was highly salted overwhelmed great recipes - that plus "Wellington" with just a sliver of fillet inside. = lost 5th star. Nice Caesar Salad. The Cheesecake had great texture and very good flavor, if served at room temp instead of refrigerated it would have been outstanding. A real plus was that they had Remy Martin XO in their Bar selection, and it was a nice pour!

I have been to the alcove many times and the food was always very good.
I booked a table last week with a note that I needed the reservation to be for 7 people, you can't book that large a party on line, it is a 65th birthday celebration. After 8 days they called to tell me they could not accommodate us and the women who called was very snippy about it.
