I have driven by the Shovel and it looks like they are getting ready to reopen. I understand new ownership is doing a kitchen and interior remodel. Hope that is true.

The food cannot be beat. Liver & onions are my favorite. The Walleye plate is amazing. Breakfast is excellent, with the perfect Bloody Mary. I am so happy it has reopened. The Shovel is such a piece of Marion history?

Upon arriving, we weren't sure we should stay. It looked like an old bar with a loyal base that wouldn't take kindly to new people. Not the case at all. The food is very, very good. My wife said the tenderloin (a favorite of hers)...More

Built on a rail yard with Marion steam and power shovel history, there are many pictures inside depicting this bit of Marion's past. That's charming. Apparently I don't know anything about walleye, because many reviewers raved about it, but I thought it was blah. Salad...More

The food is good and the price is great. It is a sort of whole in the wall with good service and food. Located next to a train track.

This trip, I enjoyed the Prime Rib Sandwich, $7.99. Ground rib eye with cheese and onion rings on the sandwich + the usual burger fixings. Big & tasty, comes with fries too. Very friendly and accommodating server, but I didn't get her name.
