The atmosphere is so comfortable and the decor is beautiful. Staff is friendly and owner is approachable and came around to the table to see how everything was going, She also gave us a little background on the dishes. Authentic Mexican food: dishes that are...actually made in Mexico! Let me start with The Battleground Margarita ($9): delicious! I had the Carne Asada Dinner ($28) consisted of marinated flank steak, chimichurri sauce, grilled onions, black beans (best ever), rice and guacamole. My friend had the Pollo Tinga Tacos ($5.50 each) and said they were great. The food is fantastic! Battleground Taproom & Mexican Kitchen has a patio for warmer weather. Already told my friends about it. Very refreshing! It is in Kent but not in the crowded bustling area of town.More

Very EXPENSIVE for average food and casual dining. The service was excellent as expected as we were the only customers at the time. I attended for a business luncheon and we had more than seven in our group. We all equally shared appetizers on the...table and on the bills. I had one entre and one mixed drink and my bill was more than $50! Needless to say I will not be returning any time soon.More

Everything here is a la carte. We started with the spicy guacamole. When it came out it was guacamole with some tanjan on top. It was a small portion for $10. For dinner we ordered carne asada - it was good but not hot. For...$28 you got steak and no sides. (Sides came in ketchup). Husband ordered tacos and they were small and also cold. 1/3 tacos were actually good. We will not be going back.More

Truly authentic Mexican cuisine, as enjoyed with 3 native Mexicans seated with me. The focus is on traditional plates as found in the interior of Mexico. Shortcuts are eschewed, so they make their own corn tortillas, and fry them for exquisite table chips and as...the basis for several plates such as chilaquiles. The owners are on site dedicated and delightful. Craft beers at their tasting bar is an added plus.More

Three of us went to the restaurant last night to celebrate a birthday and it was a wonderful time. The food and the service were excellent. It was a great crowd and they had merengue dancing lessons at the end of the evening. It was...a great way to celebrate a birthday. We all plan to return in the future.More

We were excited to try a newer Mexican restaurant-especially after reading so many great reviews so we headed to Kent to give The Battleground a try. Indoor seating is limited but fortunately there's plenty of outdoor seating available. Service was very good but the menu...is and the product they serve and the restaurant's nickel and dime approach to pricing are a bit confusing. Guacamole- nice sized portion and full of flavor but chips were thin and lacked flavor. Shrimp taco was outstanding while the steak taco was just ok and keep in mind these are "street tacos" so the portions are small. The portion size for Carnitas on the other hand was very generous and the quality and flavor of the pork was very good. Accompanied by refried black beans (fantastic), more guacamole, green sauce (below average) and 3 corn tortillas I felt like something was missing. Maybe include more cheese and some fresh cilantro? My real issue was the $2 refill charge for a non alcoholic beverage and the $1 charge for extra tortillas. $70 + with tip for two ( $26 for the Carnitas) is definitely on the expensive side but I don't mind paying for excellent food like El Carnicero or Momocho but Battleground doesn't come close by any stretch of the imagination. Why these up charges? Why plate a generous amount of carnitas and only include 3 tortillas? Why charge an extra $2 for a coke you already paid $6 for? I thought about ordering the Pisole but $14? Are you kidding me???? Will we go back? Possibly for tacos but we're not running back anytime soon.More

While we don't like to see three-star reviews, we appreciate the feedback here. We certainly don't want to nickel and dime customers. This is some constructive feedback and we agree you shouldn't be charged for additional tortillas with an entree like carnitas. We are going...More

We drive 45 minutes to eat at this restaurant. This was our third visit and will not be our last. Food is fresh and so good. We had shrimp tacos, fish tacos, zucchini blossom taco special, carnitas, salmon with pumpkin seed mole, fundido, elote, guacamole,...margaritas and flan. Everything was excellent.More

Delicious food and drinks. Friendly, attentive staff. We tried several of the tacos as well as the Mexican street corn. Everything was flavorful and well cooked.

The Battleground is phenomenal. Truly a gem, a one-of-kind place that we are so lucky to have in Kent. My friends from New York and California all agree that the tacos they’ve had when I bring them here are on par with the best they’ve...had in NYC and San Francisco. The staff is great, especially the owner, who always takes time to check on guests. I love the social justice mission. The beautiful and well-lit patio is fabulous when it’s warmer weather. Can’t wait for spring and summer here!More

Don't waste your time or money. Tried this restaurant with my boyfriend based on the good reviews but it's far from it. Their is a limited food menu but plenty of alcohol choices that makes up 3/4 of the menu. The food is okay (and...way over priced); the only truly delicious item was the flan. The tables outside have glasses set out with a capped water bottle. The glasses are ALREADY filled before you get there, and I doubt they change them after people leave. The water glasses had bugs floating in them... So I ordered a lemonade instead only to have a long, black hair tangled in the ice. They replaced the drink after I brought it to their attention... Then I was asked if I wanted a refill after being told it would be free. When we got the bill they charged for the lemonade and the refill. In any other restaurant they would apologize and comp the drink for the situation but they didn't. I have never been to a place that is so unsanitary considering the pandemic. I'm surprised they passed a health inspection. I would rather eat at Tacobell than eat here again. The food immediately made my boyfriend and I sick after an hour; I would not recommend eating here.More

Traditional Quality Mexican cuisine at affordable prices. Fast service. Was pleasently surprised, maybe the best Mexican food I've had north of Nogales, succulent not dry, definitely not TexMex. Will go back

First time visit on Saturday. The owner, Rosi, and her husband Kirk, were welcoming and inviting as if we were guests in their home. We had wonderfully attentive service and our server was so knowledgeable about the food and drinks that she steered us in...the right direction with both. The food was authentic, delicious, and beyond so so good. I recommend the fish taco, portabella taco, pork tamale, chips and guac, molcajetes, black beans, empanadas . . . heck I recommend it all! Be sure to end your meal with the churros. Amazing!More

This restaurant located in a historic former neighborhood pub offers an excellent array of Mexican authentic dishes, using the freshest of local ingredients. All chips and tortillas are handmade daily onsite. We especially enjoyed the shrimp tacos and the elote dish (corn)--The desserts are to...die for. Drinks and craft beer were delicious. Due to covid they are offering outdoor distanced seating under a canopy of beautiful trees or on a patio, and they also offer take-out and delivery. A real treat for locals and worth a trip from the Cleveland area, too. We shall return.More
