Could do so much better

I know the place only opened in December but they could decorate it! We ordered flathead and they had run out which I can understand when you are sourcing the fish yourself, however they offered to crumb the Flake which was lovely. Absolutely fowl!!!! Firstly we were seated at a window table which was nice until the 5 blowflies bouncing off of the glass made us feel physically ill. The service by our male waiter was not at all inviting. The crayfish was way over cooked and chewy and my calamari rings were cold, so cold that at first bite I had... More

This could be a fantastic place - however it's the little things that let it down. An average wine list (considering the fantastic Tassie wines available) and a chef that tends to overcook things. I know it's a seafood restaurant, however it should serve meat properly as well. I asked for a rare steak and it was medium - the... More

Doug, I really appreciate your constructive review and the time you took to offer us some details I can use to address issues arising from our change from the previous cafe to a restaurant in our new building. Thank you for contributing to our evolution. I will pass on your comments to Chef (and then duck!! :) ) We are... More

Very expensive but was yummy. very slow and the grey haired lady that served us had little or no personality. Not once did she smile or say anything nice, need to get rid of her and put someone in with a bit of stamina

Thanks for reviewing our seafood as "yummy" Robjens, and thanks also for referring to our proprietrix as a Lady. Mrs Hursey is more of a Lady than you can ever know. I have spoken to her about your review and the personal comments about her that you have shared. She is deeply embarrassed and distressed by those comments but graciously... More

This newly refurbished restaurant was very expensive for what it offered. The wine list was disappointing and the ambiance was basic, as was the food presentation and accompaniments. Service was slow and a bit careless, but the staff were trying hard to please, and their cheerfulness made their omissions easy to forgive. The best and important thing was that the... More

Changing a cafe into a restaurant is a tricky business Bruce ....clearly it takes more than a new building to do it. I am gratified to read that you feel Hursey Seafoods' expertise in handling and preparing top quality seafood is something that has not changed, and that our great FOH staff made your evening an enjoyable one despite you... Had some of the best battered flatty fillets in a long time. Would rate the food as good as doyles in Watson bay Sydney. Book for lunch and get a window seat. Price was very good too.

Yes Andy...we are all thrilled with the eating quality of the local Flathead that the Hursey boats deliver to our restaurant. Problem is we just can't ever get enough of it to satisfy demand. A lot of effort has gone into sourcing a premium grade alternative to offer our Flathead devotees when tide and weather stem the local supply....so whenever... More

After an energetic walk up and across the Nut, savouring the views and fresh air, we chose a light takeaway lunch from Hursey's. A fresh crayfish and oysters with salad, lots of lemon and delicious homemade tartare sauce. Recommend the fresh fare, friendly service and park beside the beach. Enjoy Stanley, a gem on the northwest coast of Tasmania.

My first visit to Hursey Seafoods with my wife was a complete pleasure. After being greeted like family, our order was taken, and around 6-7 minutes later, our order of freshly cooked Scallops and chips arrived, together with some crumbed banana prawns for company. These scallops had to have been the juiciest, plumpest battered balls of yumminess I have had.... More

I was invited as a party of seven to enjoy a seafood experience. The evening did not meet my expectations, much less provided and embarrassment to my host. The entrée was loaded with excess greens and items to dress the plate but disguised what I had hoped to be a pleasant salt and pepper squid. The main of trumpeter was... More
