We had reserved a table for two and this whilst in the window overlooking the street so in a prime position was unfortunately very very close to a large table occupied by a group of six or seven so their conversation dominated our evening. In retrospect I should have asked if we could be seated elsewhere but I usually go... More

Food pretty good. However we had an awfully long wait for our food. Table booked for 12.45 as we had a timed entry for an exhibition at Petworth T 2.30. Main courses arrived after nearly 45 minutes so we decided to abandon the plan to have pudding which was just as well as it also took ages to pay. We... More

Very pleasant stay for two nights lovely room and good food was rather cold in the room on arrival but once warmed up it was fine did borrow a heater to give the room a boost. Bathroom was cold due to small radiator in there which was not really fit for the job.hence the three stars. However staff and management... More

We stayed for a Friday and Saturday night - with dog. Great base for walking on he South Downs and beyond. Made to feel VERY welcome by Will and his team, nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in Room 1 which was excellent, we ate in the pub on Friday night and enjoyed it so much we also ate... More

Having rated the food here as poor some months back, we thought we should give this rather lovely old pub another try, particularly given the interesting menu posted outside. The meal was so much better, while the service and ambience, as before, were exceptional. Our friends were delighted with their choice from the day's specials - field mushrooms followed by... More

Another good honest Sussex pub that I have added to my collection. The bar area didn't really make me feel like lingering too long, but once seated in the restaurant area we got thoroughly ensconced and actually stayed a lot longer than planned ;) The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Professional, but not too stuffy or rigid. Food was good,... More

My wife and I have lunch here perhaps every six weeks or so and I am constantly surprised by the quality of both the food and the service. Today was no exception. There were several tempting specials available but we finally decided to eat from the regular menu my wife having the mushroom risotto which she said was lovely whilst... More

Some things change for the better and The Angel in Petworth just gets better and better! I have been going to The Angel for over 40 years, as we lived on Angel Street! I took my mother and children to there for Sunday lunch, last time we were in England and it was everything i hoped it would be and... More

Description
The inn has medieval origins and is a few paces from the centre of Petworth. With a relaxed atmosphere throughout, its unspoilt bar features ships beams, wooden and slate floors, stone walls and 3 fireplaces, one of which is used to spit-roast joints of meat. On fine days the walled garden is a peaceful suntrap. With a choice of local real ales served by hand pump or directly from the barrel and an extensive wine list we cater to all tastes. We are serious about our food and ingredients are locally sourced where possible; much of our fish is landed at Littlehampton, the Sussex Downs provide our lamb, along with most of the vegetables that we serve. The seasonal menu is changed four times a year, supplemented by a fortnightly menu with daily chef’s specials to provide a comprehensive choice for the most discerning diner. A warm welcome awaits you.The inn is recognised by The Good Beer Guide, The Good Pub Guide, Cask Marque and Great Country Pubs.
