The food and wine was expensive and the starter portions were tiny. The staff were attentive and could not be faulted. The starter sizes were really small and the chocolate caramel desert was bland and had no taste of caramel. The staff did not bother to ask of we enjoyed the food which was their only fault.

I have no idea what has happened in the last couple of months to The Halfway Bridge. We have been going for meals and drinks here for years, as we live locally. In fact we have spent two Christmas Days there for lunch. A few weeks ago my daughter visited with her boyfriend, after what had been a stressful week.... More

Smart hostelry with friendly ambience, our group of 6 had a variety of lovely meals and drinks. When one of our group found her roast beef was slightly too rare for her taste, they remedied it quickly.

We are long standing customers of this pub but had not visited for over a year, and we decided to enjoy a last minute booking for a quiet Sunday lunch on a cold February day. This pub has always been a great place to eat, but the food served on this visit was in a a different class altogether. In... More

It is some years since we visited the Halfway Bridge, and the standard has been maintained. The menu allows the customer to have a meal ranging from a light snack to a full gastropub meal. For lunch, we chose the light salad/sandwich menu. The choice is either a salad or an open sandwich. The smoked salmon/crayfish granary open sandwich was... More

Went visit Tillington near Petworth to see my uncle. We lived in the area when we were children.Decided to take him out for lunch. He mentioned the Halfway Bridge. On arrival we were told the next available table would be about a hour and half. So we decided to just have a drink and go. After about 15 minutes we were told... More

We went with my parents and mother-in-law and all had a very good time. The food was excellent as was the wine - and beer. We thought the waitress was very friendly and it was lovely to sit by a big woddburner on a cold day. I look forward to going again.

We had a family dinner at short notice and having been there many times before under various owners during 20 years we were not overly impressed. The ambience was good and warm, the service was attentive, however, the food was not up to past standards. Wee were there before Christmas and felt much better done by. The first course was... More

My husband and I have been a few times the halfway bridge and today's lunch was just as good. We sat in a cosy room with log burner. I had soup followed by beef cheek with mash and parsnips. It was delicious. My husband had goats cheese to start and a ribeye steak. Puddings were delicious. I had apple parfait... More

Description
Our menu bursts with locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. Fish, game and traditional English and Mediterranean dishes. There is always something to excite the appetite

A simple but elegant decor includes fabulous open fires, with dining offered in a choice of intimate nooks. In good weather alfresco dining on our pretty terrace or in the sheltered garden is idyllic. Small group bookings are easily accommodated in one of several private dining rooms.

A connoisseur's wine list complements the menu, including local sparkling wines. Many are served by the glass to help you discover a favourite! A fine selection of Sussex ales is also available.
