We arrived at beautiful South Lodge on a Thursday, for afternoon tea for my friends 40th. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table by a very friendly waiter. This wonderful Country house hotel has panoramic view of the South Downs and oozes traditional elegance in decor and service. The amazing afternoon tea included a delicious glass of award-winning... Took the Mother-in-law here for afternoon tea on her birthday. It was beautifully presented by very friendly and competent staff. The food was excellent and the choice of teas was over whelming. A lovely touch was a timer was brought out with each pot to optimise the brewing time. I recommend this experience to everyone, even just the once, you... More

The afternoon tea was nothing like I was led to believe it would be. Food average and a bit dry. Service was polite but sterile. Dirty cup and wrong teas given. Take home cake not that good. The house felt tired although terraces are lovely. So much could be done with the grounds.

My husband and I spent a child free afternoon celebrating a wedding anniversary with Afternoon Tea. We were fortunate to get a seat on the terrace which was delightful. The food was excellent and of a very high standard. Service could have been quicker but we weren't in a hurry so this didn't really matter. I would highly recommend the... More

Not sure if we stumbled upon a 'groupon' cheap afternoon but the standard was far lower than usual. The bread used for the sandwiches was stale and dry as was the cake taken home in a box. The table wasn't cleared and we literally had to scour the building to find someone to pay. Rather disappointed.

Great service and excellent choice of different teas (and you can have more than one pot). The savouries were excellent as were the cakes. Always offered seconds (pace yourself).

As with the rest of the South Lodge hotel the cream tea was excellent with staff constantly asking if you wanted more of anything, indeed insisted that we take home a box of treats for later enjoyment. Highly recommended to all you won't regret it
