10/10. Really friendly staff, lovely quintessential English pub vibe, unbelievably good food. We had Sunday roast beef and fish and fries. Both really delicious. Thank you!

Absolutely delicious, very tasty and well cooked food, attentive and very friendly staff, what more do you need for the last lunch of 2022?
We had an excellent Sunday lunch here. Often an afterthought, the vegetables that came with the roast were the stars of the show, well cooked and served in very generous portions. The place was heaving but service was friendly and efficient and the food came...quickly. We look forward to coming back soon.More
We were staying in Ilmington (amazing village) and had an evening meal and a lunch here. The evening was more atmospheric (lots of dogs, and children in Hallowe'en mode) but both meals were lovely. I especially enjoyed the moules starter, which was ample as a...main course, and it was nice to find a number of dessert wines to go with my pud (not many places have them).More
The Garden Bedroom was well appointed and comfortable, so we had a good night's sleep. Because we were staying here, it made sense to eat here in the evening. But, the menu choice was very poor. We are vegetarians (no main consisting of eggs or...cheese). We had to travel to another village to eat. On our return, we had a few drinks and ordered the cheese and crackers. This item is £12.50 and comprised of just 5 crackers, 8 grapes, 1/2 stick celery, and a tiny bit of cheese, very poor value. The cooked Breakfast was cold, oily, and incorrectly cooked rendering it tasteless and inedible (The croissant was stale.). I left everything. We overheard other guests asking where they could eat in the evening having tried The Howard Arms. The food used to be good here, but it is terrible now. I could not recommend staying at The Howard Arms Ilmington. ( B&B consists of 2 things whilst the bed is good Breakfast is inedible)More
Customer Review September 2022. We Selected “The Howard Arms” in the lovely scenic village of Ilington, from the internet description as we wanted to stay at a well-maintained pub/Hotel that looked a cut above the rest. We booked the Howard Arms for Tuesday 13th September...to Friday 17th September 2022. On our arrival we were warmly greeted by a lady at reception, our 3-day experience started from there, wow what a pleasure we were in for. We stayed in the “Oak Room, the bedroom and bath room was amazing with a bath and separate shower. The evening meals we had over the three days were really exceptional and of a very high standard, as was the three breakfasts we had, they were fresh, cooked to order, hot and delicious and on time. The whole experience at the Howard Arms was above exceptional, we can highly recommend this venue to any new visitors looking for comfort, quality and friendly helpful and knowledgeable staff. Ilington itself is a lovely village and still has that feeling attached to it and well worth a walk round. Driving to Cotswold’s highlights that are not far away and therefore easily accessible. All this added to our wonderful stay in the Cotswolds. Thankyou the Howard Arms for making our stay so memorable. Regards Bill and Cynthia AtherfoldMore
We dropped by for lunch and were not disappointed. The service and food were excellent, try the steak!
Compared to other local establishments this pub is head and shoulders above them. Always good, and helpful with excellent service.
We have eaten some really good meals this pub, but today, we took a friend for a birthday treat. Big mistake. The starters were okay, but the overpriced (as it happens). "Manx lamb rump with IOW tomato and samphire - came to the table looking...distinctly underdressed, in fact, you could say, the plates was too big for the minuscule pieces (2) of lamb which adorned them, with a couple of oddments on the side . And this cost £28 !!!!! it really was a disappointing dish to set before two grown men. As there were no salads at all on the menu I ordered a steak sandwich. That came with a few minute pieces of steak saturated in a thick yellow cheese. I couldn't eat it, and wasn't charged. Not one of us had the heart to order dessert, and we will not be going again. There are many better places to lunch than that.More
A lovely pub in a quiet charming village, with dining space indoors and outdoors. Inside is very atmospheric with beams, old flagstones, fireplace, nooks etc. It’s also dogs friendly. Service was very prompt and attentive. Food was excellent- gastro style with prices to match. I...had the grilled peaches with toasted almonds, burrata and side of chips. My husband had the pork chop (£25). For the quality and taste, I think the prices were fair. We will be back.More
What a gem this is.... The restaurant was busy with lunches and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming yet we felt expected and our room was ready and perfect- spotless and very comfortable. Our evening meal was most enjoyable, with a wonderful selection on the...menu. Breakfast was also excellent. All members of staff looked after our every need, what a delight. We will visit again, maybe not for a stop over but for a bit longer. Thank you.More
We took 2 guests for Sunday lunch so did not want to make a fuss about the hugely disappointing meal. Firstly, gin and tonics were ordered and, at the same time, the waitress asked for our food order as they were busy. The drinks arrived...and less then five minutes later the roast beef appeared!! No time to drink the G & T’s. We have wine with food, so that was very rushed. The beef was so tough even when we asked for steak knives and our guests battles on bravely, or wanting to appear ungracious! but it was far too difficult to cut for us, with a large sinew running through our slices, very clear to see. Sadly we won’t visit again for Sunday lunch and not at £20 per dish for something we couldn’t cut!More
Lovely place to visit, all staff very friendly and the food is fabulous. I had the scallops and then the burger, both courses were superb. Will be visiting again. Highly recommend.
Oh dear - Oh dear !! This has gone up and down in standards again and again over the past 20 plus years and sadly it is really not worth a visit at present whatsoever ! Very pricey to start with so you expect good...nosh ! My lemon sole had its head and tail hanging off both sides of the small plate dripping butter everywhere when placed before me . My husbands meal was not very good at all either - £27.50 for a lemon sole and pretty much for the same price for a Barnsley chop ( more fat than meat ) . So over £50 for two pretty poor main courses. The whole meal was really not good full stop . Again oh dear - it really isn't hard to prepare and present good pub food .More
Lunch on Saturday. Busy with a super atmosphere. No snack (sandwich) menu only main meals. Whilst a good selection, the accompaniments were lacking. One would expect a small salad with a burger or a vegetable side with mains. Service friendly and attentive. Over priced for...quantity and quality.More
