We walked from Alton Towers during a Festive Break stay. We walked past the chained oak (what Hex is based on). Nice food and drink to rejuvenate you ready for the hike back.

I met my cousin here so that our children could have a day visiting Alton Towers while the rest of our party could catch up, enjoy the lovely gardens and excellent food which catered for the vegans amongst us. We were not disappointed and made very welcome. Free car parking, woodland walks in a great country setting. Really, what's not... More

Took some friends and my grandson for a walk this morning to this beautiful spot in countryside and decided to call at rambles on way back , I was so disappointed the food was poor and bought a tub of ice cream for my Grandson which was tiny at a cost of £2 What a rip off. Defiantly not going... More

We visited Ramblers Retreat earlier in the year before a trip out for the day at Alton Towers. The home made food is exceptional as is the puddings, especially the lemon meringue pie which basically was the size of my head. The little private huts in the gardens is also pleasant, especially if you have a keen eye for spotting... More

Considering how local we are we have never actually called in at the Ramblers! After a walk across the old train lines we decided to actually venture in for a drink and cake. It was a Friday afternoon and very busy both inside and out. Served quite quickly via the outside hatch and cannot fault the food ( homemade flapjack... More

I am enchanted with this place. It's simple, yet all the small things make a difference. A lot of flowers, a very well kept garden with some serious landscaping done. All the lovely corners to sit in the shade. Superb menu - home baked (that was my impression) and made desserts - the best damson pie I've ever had. Things... More

On a bike ride today we stopped at this gorgeous setting for a spot of lunch, and a pint of beer! The outside area is absolutely beautiful, the food is delicious and the staff are ever so friendly! It was very busy but well worth sticking around to find a table. The Bakewell tart is amazing too!

I have been to the Ramblers Retreat many times over the years and always enjoyed the food. I was not happy this visit however! The 25p surcharge on credit/debit card payments is excessive. If you look at their menu and have cream tea and pay with your debit card they charge you 25p to do this. So they may get... More

A large group of us, fresh from a stag do, descended upon this place seeking a great breakfast. We found this place by accident, but when we arrived we were amazed at the surroundings and the gardens of the restaurant, which is where we chose to sit. We were warmly welcomed, our orders taken quickly and the food delivered in... More
