We did a walk up and down the river Parrot and Tone and we stopped at this watering hole for food and drinks! We had a beef burger and a falafel burger, both were awesome! The chill jam is unreal! I personally can not wait to come back and try the steaks as the portion sizes are more than ample!... More

This is a real Somerset pub, not one of those themed faux traditional places, so it is a bit 'spit and sawdust'. Eight of us ate and all agreed that the food was superb. A great menu catering for all tastes, a few nice specials and a good selection of beers, ciders and wines. My tandoori chicken dish was one... More

I have visited this pub a number of times when visiting family in Somerset and have to say the standard of the food is fantastic! I know the pub has changed hands recently but the standard is as good as ever. I have to say the sunday roast dinners are the best I have ever had anywhere! There was a... More

I usually visit this pub if I'm passing because it's exactly what a country pub should be. Very good meals (not the cheapest but that's reassuring), decent beer & a friendly atmosphere. No problem with bringing a dog in either

. Legend has it that King Alfred burned the cakes in the next village to Burrow bridge. He need not have bothered had this eponymous pub been around when he did so, because the food here and the ambience is wonderful. It sits on the banks of the river Parratt that drains, and sometimes fail to drain the Sedgemoor just... More

Went on a works night out. Great Christmas lunch of 3 courses. Turkey and trimmings were gorgeous, moist turkey, pigs in blankets very tasty and vegetables cooked to perfection. Fabulous waitress service, who had to put up with our antics as we were all merry by the end of the night. Very polite and accommodating. Catered for dairy free and... More

Two of us stopped in the Alfred for lunch last weekend. It used to be a regular stop for us for many years but we had yet to try it under the new owners. I ordered the Chicken tandoori burger, my other half the Sea trout with King Prawns. The Burger was cold, burnt around the edges and obviously a... More

Passed by for many years without stopping, what a mistake... Just visited this traditional no frills pub for Sunday roast; friendly service and delicious large mains portions - excellent value and lovely feel, will definitely be returning again.

We stopped off here for lunch on our way back from Christmas shopping at Clarks Village. It was very busy but the staff managed to find us a table upstairs, which was much quieter than the rest of the pub. We both had the roast beef, which was excellent and there was plenty of it with lots of vegetables and... More
