We have eaten here twice recently and have not been disappointed. The food is of good quality and very reasonably priced. We always try to use this pub when in the area. The £5 lunch offer is truly great value. We can't wait to go back!

We've eaten at the King Alfred several times in the last year. Up until now we've had the Sunday lunch which is huge with masses of different veg to share. Today we tried the Wednesday £5 supper which was really good. Partner had pork loin with bubble and squeak, I had smoked haddock and mozarella fishcakes. We were both really... More

We were a late lunch stop but Rachel H who served us made sure we were not too late and the menu was varied and original. Specials and Desserts reasonably priced and very good value. We didn't have to wait and enjoyed a... More

I love this pub (well everything but the ladies' loos!) It is people and dog friendly and the food has always been amazing. But they don't do chips any more. At least not like they used to and they used to be the best chips ever! The young and ever-pleasant waiter tried to convince us that we were indeed having... More

I lived close to here for a while, and always looked forward to calling in on this little gem, tucked away next to the river. Don't drive too fast as you might go straight past. As a pub alone, its outstanding with a good bunch of friendly and interesting locals. The food has been nothing short of outstanding. I can... More
