Firstly, a declaration: ate here some time ago, and previous week-end ate at a 2 star Michelin restaurant, L'Enclume. What does that mean? Owners have changed but Sunday lunch still as great as before. 2 star tasting menu of small (mini) portions incredible but an unpretentious Sunday blowout can equal it (if you know what I mean and both get... Having planned to go somewhere else that did not work out, we were a bit late getting there for lunch, at about 2.20 when they finish lunch at 2.30, however we were made to feel really welcome and ordered their battered cod and chips, which was lovely. We were taking my puppy out for her first socialising visit to a... More

Our wandering walking group met here after our walk. When we arrived the place was deserted, but by the time we had finished our meals, the place was really crowded mainly with walkers and cyclists, which made for a jolly atmosphere. The local ciders were excellent, and different from the mass produced versions. We all thought the food to be excellent,... More

I popped in on the off chance of a table for a single diner on a busy Sunday lunchtime and had 'the works' comprising roast beef, lamb and pork so full marks for the food and the service. The only downside was having to listen to a commercial radio station playing 80's music with lots of adverts!

The fillet steak on the socials board was cooked to perfection and was served with excellent chunky chips cooked with the skin on and a large side salad. Friendly staff. Some interesting ales that vary from time to time. I shall be back.

Take a walk up Burrow Mump for fabulous views then enjoy some good food at the pub. Not your 'normal' pub grub - really spoilt for choice so will have to go back again soon. Highly recommend the £5 lunch menu. A traditional country pub with friendly staff.

We have been to the King Alfred on three occasions in the last month or so, and on each occasion thoroughly enjoyed the excellent local food, the rustic ambience and the riverside location. The £5 lunches and suppers represent the best value for miles around. Despite the low price, portions are more than adequate and the quality of the ingredients... More
