Took some friends from Paris to a traditional English pub. It turned out to be Steak Night which was as good as a Steak Night could be. I asked for a salad for myself which although was not on the dinner menu was produced without fuss. All in all 5 stars for welcome, food and service. Andy -Shrivenham

Really great food and service, especially the lamb shank. The trip from London is totally worth it, we come here as often as possible.

We booked at short notice. Warm welcome with a friendly smile. A good menu (for children as well) - enough choice - nothing worse than too much! Excellent selection of ale and beer. Plus some good cocktails. Food was very good. Excellent Tomahawk Stake. Overall a very good evening. Will definitely return.

Good beer but poor food. Called in for a Sunday lunchtime pint and saw the roasts being served and decided to return to try one as they looked very inviting as they drifted by. Unfortunately whilst the portions may be generous the quality of food is not. The beef was tough and vegetables bland and tasteless, disappointing. Possibly the clue... More

READER IGNORE This guy posted the same lame review for the King and Queen up the road on the same day (2 roasts??) - I know they do a good job as do we and I personally counted 84 roasts and had the beef myself so utter rubbish. Do us all a favour and get yourself a meal deal for... More

I'm not one for gourmet pub food, in as much as parting with the best part of £15 for a lamb shank causes me to break out in a cold sweat, however good service, generous quantities, and flexibility with regards to the side dishes, resulted in a good evening. Surprisingly quiet though on a Friday night

I had the lamb shank. Really tasteless. The vegges we're uninteresting. Only the friendliness of the staff gets them a few stars. I guess one should only eat the steak (my daughters suggestion). The pudding was good though. Very very noisy.

Hi Roger Many thanks for the review - your table seemed to have a nice evening. Maybe best to have had a word with us on the night in person rather than the keyboard - we served 28 fresh cooked Welsh Lamb shanks Thursday which were slow cooked for 4-5 hours that afternoon - perhaps the seasoning is not as... Came here on Friday to watch North by North West. Excellent film. We watched it on the big screen in the medieval banqueting hall. Food was excellent and of a decent portion size. Waitresses were attentive and brought us drinks so we didn't have to miss the film. Lovely host and welcoming place.
