Presumably due to covid, when we visited food was takeaway only - not an issue for us, as we wanted to eat back at our holiday cottage. We called during opening hours (evening service) to place our order and then picked up. This was ready...quickly. Vast menu, good price, very tasty food.More
The Chippy offers great quality at a very reasonable price. There alway seems to be a queue so you know everything is cooked fresh. Highly recommended. Due to Covid 19 restrictions it is only offering take away at this time.
We arrived in Hawes Friday afternoon and decided to go out to eat. The weather was very wet at the time. We wondered about, and had seen in our accommodation, that you need to phone to order on an evening. We walked up to look...and saw someone collecting their order, being asked lots of questions and paying by car. There were very few people about, so not really sure why they could not be taking orders from people just walking by. We tried a couple of pubs, but all fully booked, so we stood just along the road and rang to order fish and chips. We sat in our car and ate them, they were delicious. The chips were well cooked and the fish was amazing. We didn't see the full menu, so can't advise what else they offer. The restaurant was closed and I don't think it is open at all yet.More
Wednesday 2nd September 2020 at 11.50am my wife ordered 2 Fish & Chips and a Sausage. The fish was small but fine but the chips were RE-FRIED! Yes, old chips bunged back in the fryer and served as "fresh". Had we not already left Hawes...I would have taken them back and demanded a refund. How can you treat your customers with such contempt? The "chips" were like little razor blades and were ALL left and put in the bin. I consider you owe us a refund and an apology and you should hang your head in shame. This is the problem with a monopoly. Should another chip shop open in the town I think you'd be history. What are you going to do about it?More
Arrived and placed order at 515pm at the window. I was told to come back to collect in 15 mins. I waited outside until 615pm and finally they called my name after 2 prompts. They definitely looked after the locals first without question. However given...the covid circumstances and just how busy it was I can understand the wait but it was rather haphazard way to manage the queue. All that said the chips were excellent quality and tasted amazing.More
We were recommended The Chippie by our B&B hosts, and it did not disappoint! The Chippie had their doors closed but a large window open by which they were taking orders. A young girl was taking orders and she had a huge smile and great...customer service. There was a small que outside (so clearly popular) and once your food was ready, your name was called. The food was as good as any other chippie, with an empty car park just round the corner. On our trip, we picked up our order and drove along the road between Hawes and Aysgarth where we pulled in a lay by and sat with our food looking out over the dales. As an alternative to a local pub, we would highly recommend this place!More
