We met for a family lunch, we pre-booked and they took our order in advance by WhatsApp which was a very helpful idea and made pre-ordering nice and easy. The pub is nice, its clean well maintained, nice traditional pub. The main dining room is in a conservatory to the rear which was nice and light. The staff were super friendly and made us very welcome. The food was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which I really enjoyed. The lunch menu was mostly pub classics with a couple of options for those on other diets. Everyone enjoyed their food. There are some nice cask ales on in the bar too. If you are driving here be aware its on street parking only and there isn't much of that so allow yourself 10 minutes to find a spot and walk up.

Our 2nd year eating here on our annual holiday in Filey.
Great menu, something to suit everyone.
Lovely restaurant area in extension/ conservatory area to rear of bar. Very popular, booking advisable.
Steak pudding is amazing and highly recommended, never had one this good anywhere before.
Service is brilliant - friendly and attentive without being over the top.
Already excited to return for my birthday in July 2025.
Well done everyone đź‘Źđź‘Źđź‘Ź

A nice pub with good atmosphere and very good food. I had the steak and ale pie which was very tasty and my wife had the pulled beef baguette which she said was very nice. Good portion sizes at a good price.

After searching online for somewhere to eat we chose The Star. Food was really good, and served boiling hot. The steak and ale pie was packed full of large tender chunks of meat, and the homemade chips were good. Hubby had chilli, made the proper way, with beef chunks, not mince, and he said it was just right, with a nice kick of heat. For me though, the stem ginger pudding was probably the lightest , fluffiest pudding I've ever had, it was absolutely delicious. Hubby had Sicilian Lemon pudding, and that tasted great aswell. The pub serves a decent selection of real ales, which kept the hubby happy, and the staff were very friendly. All in all, a great experience, and would definitely recommend a visit if you're down that way.

We visited The Star on Tuesday 29th August for my mother-in-law's birthday. I was a little apprehensive as we approached as the outside looked more like a pub than a restaurant and we'd wanted something a bit nicer for a birthday meal, but with options for the kids. We ate in the restaurant area at the back of the pub, which wasn't elaborately decorated but had a nautical theme, which is what you want when you visit the seaside and was very clean. The food was delicious! I had the lamb shank which was tender and flavoursome. My husband ordered the sea bass which arrived with 4 huge chilli prawns on, which I also tried, they were so good! And my husband said the seabass itself was equally as tasty. Our party also had the fishpie which was packed full of prawns and fish chunks and the belly pork which was a special of the day. All the food was so tasty, good portion sizes and you could tell it was freshly cooked and cooked well. The food wasn't pretentious but hearty and delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Would definitely go back here again. Never judge a book by its cover!

Very nice pub good staff great food. Four of us went and were served with drinks first at the bar. We arrived early so just sat in the lounge were called to our dinner table when our time arrived for our meal. Our menus were brought to us and after 5 minutes they came back and took our order food arrived quite quickly and it was superb I cannot fault the pub and would definitely return. Anne Walker

Visited here with friends for a meal on Saturday night. The guy who shown us to our table needs a lesson in good customer service. He just threw my menu at me and didn’t even speak. The girl who took our orders was different again. Very polite and friendly. The starters starters were very nice. 2 had the Brie , one fishcake and the other garlic mushrooms. The mains were different again. Never have I had hunters chicken where it’s a bowl full of sauce three little bits of chicken a raster of bacon and cheese. Also the bowl was full of peppers. I thought it should be a chicken breast with bacon and cheese and not quite as much sauce. Chips are advertised as homemade but we’re definitely frozen chips. There was nothing else with the dish like you would normally get Very bland to say the least. Won’t be returning here for food

We popped in for lunch and a drink on our way home after a day trip to Filey. What a lovely warm welcome from the staff. I had the fish goujon sandwich with chips and my partner had the chicken and mushroom pie. The food was freshly prepared, piping hot and delicious. The place itself was spotlessly clean. We will definitely be returning customers and highly recommend.

First visit for food. We received a warm welcome and our waitress was very attentive. Portion size for my husband’s seafood chowder was very disappointing at £7.45 I was expecting a soup bowl sized dish rather than the teacup size he received. My crab, king prawn and lobster cocktail was all blended in with with the sauce so I couldn’t actually taste the seafood or differentiate what type of seafood I was tasting. Mains were a good size steak and ale pie and fish pie were tasty. Glad we tried the food during the government discount I feel we would have been more disappointed if we had paid full price for our meal but we won’t go again for food. Drinks in the beer garden were nice.

Brilliant small pub with food served . The atmosphere is great with a warm welcome from the staff. Went on a Friday night for a meal , home cooked food , large portions and a great choice of specials , I had the braised lamb shank , Cooked to perfection. The meal was so good we booked for Sunday lunch , which once again was substantial and great value . Would highly recommend

First visit to the Star with wife and 2 young children. Food was of good quality and was good choice for all even considering COVID reduced menu albeit slightly on the pricey side. Pub and restaurant was well set out with good COVID security measures in place. Unfortunately the service and speed of service was extremely slow and poor. So much so my 5 year old said on our way home “daddy do we have to go back there again” to which I asked why and she replied “I never want to go back, why did it take so long for my dinner, I didn’t like it”. I appreciate at times like these that waiting times may be longer than usual however a main course and ice cream should not take over 2 1/4 hours, particularly when there are children at the table.
If you are happy sitting at a table all evening (even with COVID around) then go for it, it’s probably for you but if you want to eat out with kids and then head home give the Star a miss.

A group of friends and I had a great Friday night at the Star, at the start of our holiday weekend in Filey recently. Nice unpretentious pub, good music and wide choice of beers. The barman Owen was friendly and helpful with information about local facilities, and he put on some of our favourite music selections later in the evening. We went back there on Saturday lunchtime and Sunday evening.
