Excellent Fish Supper

Fabulous meal. Staff friendly and efficient. We both had the grilled cod from the specials board and it was delicious. Full of flavour and beautifully cooked. Life is expensive but we felt we had good value for money. We will certainly return and highly recommend. Everything clearly freshly cooked to order. Be prepared to queue for the take away

Sunday roast

Have often used this place as we have found it to be the best fish and chip restaurant anywheres but took the opportunity to sample their advertised Sunday roast...and we were not disappointed! Excellent roast beef with a plentiful selection of vegetables and roast potatoes and very reasonably priced too! Much recommended

Amazing service and delicious food 😍

Amazing service, delicious food served in no time and were able to accommodate me as I'm vegan, so offered me a really yummy stuffed pepper which I had with chips and mushy peas. I loved it. Nothing was too much trouble and we had the whole restaurant to ourselves, as it was a Tuesday night. We had a lovely family meet up, delicious food and great service for very affordable prices. Thank you. Definitely recommend 😊

Bitterly disappointed

Unfortunately, my experience didn’t compare to the good reviews. Visited and queued for over 25 minutes outside and only then saw the notice inside saying it was cash only. Maybe an idea to post this on the window. Not a problem as had some cash but don’t usually as everywhere takes card. That aside, ordered 2 lots of cod and chips - the chips had no flavour and the cod just tasted of fat and batter (no cod taste at all). Bitterly disappointed. My 15 year old said the same thing so wasn’t just my thoughts!

NOT The Best In Kent!

My nephew and family were visiting from Budapest. They wanted to eat “fish and chips” so we went to Ossies. Ordered 5 large portions of cod and chips, for takeaway. We had to wait a few minutes for the cod to cook. We then walked up to Marine Drive, to eat them overlooking the beach. The cod were excellent. However the chips, because they had been waiting while the cod were cooking were very, very ordinary. Just about warm but quite greasy. Very disappointing: especially as they cost £51. If Ossies is the “best in Kent” then other chip shops must be poor. (I don’t think so!) Also please note they only accept cash.

Incredible roast dinner!!

Wow, wow, wow!! We came to visit family whilst they are on their holiday and we booked in for a roast dinner! What a great choice!! Four of us had the beef, and one had the chicken. I had the beef and it was delicious! A great selection of vegetables, skin-on potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and the tastiest red wine gravy I’ve ever had. The beef was so tender and melt in your mouth. Followed by a wonderful portion of homemade tiramisu. If you do want to try Ossie’s, you have to pre-order the type of meat you would like in advance. Highly recommended and we will be coming down again for another visit and another roast dinner. We live two hours away and it is absolutely worth the drive down here to have another one of these roast dinners, and try out some of the other meals available on the menu. We are already discussing and planning our next visit!!

Disappointing

Staying in Tankerton, we decided to try what is described as “the best fish and chips in Kent”. We wanted to eat in the restaurant, checking on the website that it would be open on a Monday evening, only to find when we got there that it was closed. We settled for the more limited menu at the takeaway to eat outside at uncomfortable and not too clean benches next to smelly bins ( my husband is mobility impaired so if we had carried food to eat at the seafront it would be cold). As for the food itself, the haddock was tasty and generous in size with lovely batter, but the chips were merely acceptable, flabby and tasteless. I hope this is really not the best that Kent can offer a visitor from “oop North”!

Disappointed following our first visit to Ossie's

First and last visit to Ossie's for fish and chips... We had to wait nearly an hour for our food, they were more concerned about serving takeaways than customers at the tables. The portions were big; however, the fish and chips were nothing special: neither the fish nor the chips had any seasoning whatsoever, the fish batter and parts of the fish were undercooked. Fast forward a few hours, I had a bad tummy which I can only pin down to the food. Don't be fooled by the long queues, not worth it unfortunately.

Absolutely delicious fish curry, coriander based, something I had never tried before but was really glad I did. Rest of the family really enjoyed their cod and chips. Prices were the same/slightly lower than a larger chain like Wagamamas etc, but portions were large. Food was freshly made to order (evidently not reheated freezer meals). There was a great moment when we could quite literally smell the food cooking. The staff were thoughtful and attentive. Requests for small changes to the meals were carried out with no fuss. Overall an excellent restaurant and somewhere I would be certain to revisit if in the area.

Came here whilst on Christmas holiday in the area. Great Fish & Chip meal with the entertainment of a 'cheeky' young lad who is not afraid to ask for more £'s for his not so enthusiastic brother!! Great to find a family run business serving best quality fare, greatly cooked and well presented for what is merely a 'local Chippy'. Well done!!!!

Great roast

Decided to try Ossies Sunday roast delivery service. We ordered roast beef and a roast chicken,and a couple of desserts. I’ve always been sceptical about a takeaway roast dinner and to be honest I wasn’t really that excited about having one delivered. My views have now totally changed thanks to Ossies. Delivery was prompt,the food was hot and delicious,with a good selection of vegetables which were tasty and not overcooked. The meat was tender and very flavoursome. Desserts were a tasty end to a very satisfying meal. Good price as well. Highly recommended.

This friendly place offers so much more than a fish and chip shop with seating. A warm welcome, a wide variety of dishes, we enjoyed our visit very much. The food was served quickly, piping hot and the fish and chips we had tasted delicious. Good prices too!!

Excellent fresh fish

Very fresh fish excellently cooked. My wife had the skate special, marinated in coriander and garlic, baked in the oven served with saute potatoes and salad. I had plaice chips and mushy peas. All delicious. Friendly service too. It was a chilly day, so could have done with a bit more heating. Would recommend.

Shocking Service

We were a family of eight staying for a week in a rented house in Whitstable, me, my wife, my son and his wife live in Inverness, my daughter and her husband live in Edinburgh, but my wife’s elderly mum and dad live in Kent. This is the first time that granny has seen us all together in many years and as it was our last night together, she wanted to buy us supper, so to save on costs for her we thought a fish and chip carry out would be the best option. My son in law phoned the order in and him and my son went to collect it, we ordered seven lots of fish and chips and one sausage and chips, two tubs of curry sauce and two tubs of mushy peas. When the fellas got back and we unpacked the food, we were three fish short, the curry sauce and the peas were cold too! That upset Granny as she had bought us the meal and she wanted for us all to eat together on the last night that we would all be together, she’s 80 and we might not get together for her again due to our children having jobs and small babies and the distance we live apart. This really matters to an 80-year-old woman. My son in law called the chip shop while some of us tucked in as it was pointless letting them all go cold, as microwaved fish and chips are just not the thing. The chip shop said that they would bring the food over to the house. Having finished my meal, I stood out in the road and waited for the food to arrive. After about 10 minutes a young woman came with the rest of the fish. She apologised for the mistake but I felt I had to tell her that the night had been spoiled and that Granny was upset about it because she wanted us all to enjoy our meal together. The woman said that she had given us an extra fish, but I replied that we didn’t need extra fish, we just wanted the food we ordered. At that point the woman drove off. I went back inside and handed the parcel of fish over to my wife, who on opening it found that there were only two fish in the paper. Jeepers could it get any worse? My son in law, again called the chip shop and told them again about yet another mistake. Another delivery was promised, but by now it was too late. My wife gave Granny one fish and both my wife and daughter shared the last fish. The order arrived, again after ten minutes and I left it to my son to go and get it as by now it was a fiasco. My son came back inside with a carrier bag full of more fish and chips that by now we didn’t need!

We got to the shop at 7.30 after paying £5.70 for an hour and a half’s parking, to be told they were shutting in half hour. Anyway we ordered and sat down. The chips were good, the batter was a little bit stodgy for my liking and the mushy peas were good. Service was mediocre.
