Well worth going out of your way for. Delightful old pub. In the front bar by the window there's a list of the publicans dating back to the days when it was the Red Lion in the 17th Century. Good beer - four decent ales on offer and great pub food. Had some lovely crisp prawns in batter to start... More

Found this as a result of internet search for dog friendly pubs, and it certainly a great find. Very friendly and typical pub landlord, a pub which still retains it full character, great beer garden where the quietness is deafening, and food which has good presentation and quality. It is one of those places where if you catch a sunny... More

A beautiful pub in idyllic Kentish surroundings. The bar, restaurant and beer garden ooze with charm and you really feel that the pub is stooped in history. We went for lunch and a few drinks and we were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable price of the meal. The food and service were both excellent.

Decided to try out a pub I had not been to for about 30 years with the wife for a meal. Was hoping for somewhere we could perhaps take friends to but afraid did not come away thinking "wow". Food was really good and arrived quickly and our waiter was really friendly but only staff on seemed to be two... More

Enjoyed an evening meal with friends. The pub is very "old worldly" with low ceilings & beams. The bar area is very cosy and the restaurant is the same. The service was great and the food was first class.

John is a great host and the ambience is so authentic you can taste it. If you want a great English Restaurant the Kentish Rifleman is the place to be. We had fish and chips and it was delicious, but there is so much more on the menu. We normally walk to the Kentish Rifleman from West Peckham through Kentish... More

Lovely landlord fitted us in last minute - great Harvey's ale lovely glass off merlot. Beautiful setting - lovely gardens - excited about food:- Charcuterie board 1 piece Parma ham 3 pieces salami - little green salad and some olives - 2 pieces dried up bread. Very disappointed. Chicken fajitas - no great flavour - no guacamole salsa or soured... More

We have been lunches in local pubs this year so have tried a fair number. After reading the reviews here we thought we would give the pub a try. Turns out to be for us, a big mistake,it bore no resemblance to these reviews! It was a midweek lunch, there were others dining there. Barnsley Chop- no way. It was just... More

Really great traditional pub. 16th Century inn and you could feel the history. Great atmosphere, good food and great selection of beers and wines. Experienced Lunch and dinner and both very good.

The pub is a little out of the way, with limited parking, but we were encouraged by the good reviews. The bar is small , and the eating area only had 5 tables, though there appears to be another larger room to the side. A friendly welcome with a good pint of Harveys Best on tap. We both went for...
