Had a fab team day here with work where we made blonde pizza which was delicious and then I made a quinoa salad which was also very yummy. Pieter was very enthusiastic and made everyone feel comfortable and really enjoy the day. The team around him were also really helpful, cleaning up after us and making the whole day run... More

Great course learning to make different types of pasta under the patient guidance of Pieter. Now feel much more confident about using my pasta maker. Excellent hints to make the food look more professional. Such a good way to spend the morning and the bonus of meeting a lovely bunch of fellow cooks.

Glorious sunshine, a long coastal walk and coming across what appeared to be a gem of a country pub. I must be in heaven. Wrong. A cooking lesson was in progress with mouthwatering food smells but no food at all available! Drink? No bar as such, just a pleasant lady sat at a computer. A bottle of pale ale from... More

A great cooking course, thank your Pieter. My friend Lance and I were on the course, he cooks regularly and I cook rarely, a few of times a year with my Grand children who always decide the menu. So I decided I needed to understand cooking a little more than just following what Delia says. I had a great time,... More

I was lucky enough to accompany a Friend of the Chequers to a very convivial, long-table Sunday lunch, and the food was great, and really good value. Tender, flavour-packed rotisserie chicken cut up into generous hunks and accompanied by fantastic roast potatoes, ribbons of courgettes with pine nuts and mint, aubergine cous cous, red cabbage, and followed by a heavenly... I have attended a number of courses at Chequers Kitchen including pasta making, fish skills, Thai cookery and bread making. The atmosphere is very friendly and the owner Pieter ensures that the courses are both fun and informative, appealing to anyone with an interest in food. Returning home with my recipes, I have been inspired to practise and experiment with... More

I cannot praise this restaurant highly enough. Had a fantastic meal here today. Exquisite food that melted on the tongue! Baked pear in red wine with mascarpone cream to die for! Beautifully presented roast chicken with scrumptious sides of red cabbage, broccoli, and chick pea and cauliflower salad. Wonderful service from all the staff and delightful guests for company. I have just spent a most enjoyable morning on a Fish Preparation course at the Chequers Cookery School. It was fun yet very educational, Pieter the Chef, had a talent for keeping us not only amused, but very well informed, and I think we all learnt a great deal. I can recommend it to anyone, and I look forward to... More

Booked to go here for a family meal to celebrate a birthday, was a large group of us (10 )booked weeks in advance and was all arranged. Received a phone call about 3 pm on the day we were due to go ( a Saturday ) to say their friers or something had a fault so they would not be... More

Unfortunately this review is full of inaccuracies. This booking was not made by this reviewer. It was made by a woman in the party who I spoke to several times. When we decided we had to cancel the event I rang her to explain. This was on the Thursday, not on the Saturday. Of course we realised it would be... More

Chequers Kitchen is now primarily a cookery school and we hope you will join us to cook together one day. This means the restaurant is no longer open routinely to the general public. However, there are still ways to come and dine with us and the bar will be open for hot and cold drinks whenever we are here - which is most of the time! We continue to hold our popular Demo & Dine events, with dates and menus listed on the website. We are a fabulous venue for Team Building, private group dining, celebrations and Christmas parties. And for those who have dined with us in the past we have our by-invitation Friends' Suppers and Lunches. The best way to find out about opportunities to dine at Chequers Kitchen will be to sign up for our newsletter. Or stay in touch via the website or this Facebook page.
