I had a meeting with someone at 11am and I had an hour to kill. Harpenden has all the major Coffee outlets, Starbucks,Costa and Cafe Nero which gives you an indication of the Clientele and Affluence of this beautiful Hertfordshire Town. As a Sole Trader myself I opted for an Independent, which I thought would offer something different. I ordered... More

My mind boggles when a review states "beware Italian in name only)! I go to Cafe Gusto up to 4 times a week for my Italian cappuccino. And twice weekly I have my 2 favourite (Italian) dishes, Pasta (chicken arrabiata) and pizza (chicken). Chef Marco, makes fresh food every day and he kindly tweaks the food to my liking (since... Miserable, rude, unhelpful, food incredibly basic, badly displayed and inaccurately written in menu, i.e. what is written is not what you get. No apology for incorrect meal, no acknowledgement from staff as you enter or when you talk to them, they not interested

Have they changed management? Staff were not Italian nor was the tepid brown dish water, they called an espresso coffee. Are you Italian I asked? No. I complained about the coffee and was told "We are in England now"! says it all really. I was offered another but could see it would not resemble an Italian espresso. The food offerings... More

Easy to miss this tiny cafe off the main road. Nothing really unusual on the menu but sandwiches served nicely on china plates. Possibly a little expensive but not outrageous. Service a little slow and bill was not ready when we were ready to leave. Atmosphere was good - would recommend a reservation for busy times. Would happily go again.

Love this place- staff are lovely and the breakfasts are great! Can't fault it. Opens very early too which is great for us early risers! Highly recommend.

First off I was surprised they were open so early on a Saturday, it was 7.30 & they already had a customer, so good for the early risers in town. I went with my wife & eldest daughter & we all chose the same breakfast from the menu, but two were altered without any issues or price changes, which does... More

So nice to have a coffee and pastry in a place that's not a soulless high street chain shop. This is a pleasant venue to enjoy a civilised, but quiet break.

As an occasional visitor here and having read through the reviews, I can attest that they are all true. It is a great independent cafe with nice cakes. The service is very variable - staff sometimes sullen, sometimes friendly, and will be nice to your face but talk behind your back. Don't know about the ladies, but the gents toilet... More

Nice little coffee shop with a fantastic selection of home made cakes. Seating is limited as it's small, but definitely worth a visit.
