We had completed a long haul on the Test Way a little tired and damp and were awaiting to be picked up outside the John O Gaunt which alas had just closed. Seeing our plight the doors opened and we were welcomed into the warmth, offered drinks and sat in front of the log fire until our transport arrived. Our... More

A superb venue! Clean, pleasant interior with a welcoming fire on a frosty day. The home cooked food was delightful and the Palmers (of Bridport) ales on hand pump would please CAMRA members and others. The current staff are most friendly and the service was efficient. The location of the John o'Gaunt is adjacent to the river Test and delightful... More

Thank you for a great review. We are delighted that you enjoyed the experience. The menu is constantly evolving and the ales are changed by the barrel whilst all being kept at optimum temperatures. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards, George More

This pub really is in a two-horse town. No pun intended. Not really convenient for anything unless you are exploring the North Hampshire countryside - the village is on the Test Way. We called in after a walk on a Sunday afternoon in November for just a drink so cannot comment on the food etc. The service was friendly but... More

Dropped in after seeing the sign on the main road, we weren't disappointed. The beer was well kept and the glass of Merlot with the meal was lovely. We went for the very reasonably priced roast beef Sunday lunch which came on plates brimming with meat and beautifully cooked vegetables (beans, cabbage, carrots, parsnips and roast spuds The beef was very tender and the homemade... When we arrived we were warmly greeted and the log fire was welcome as it was a chilly evening. There was a good range of choices on the menu at reasonable prices. Service was prompt. The food was served hot and freshly cooked. We especially liked the fact that the vegetables were fresh and not coated in butter / salt... More

Went here early an early thursday evening in Aug. I had not been to the pub in many years and was aware they had been some difficulties in the recent past. Thisd ws a really good experience. The Palmers IPA was spot and and the food good. My wife had a 'home made' Chilli and I had a Ploughmans -... More

After a long walk stopped here for dinner. Had ploughman's (beautiful cheeses) fishcakes (husband said best he has ever had) and sausage & mash. All very good quality & freshly made. Little bit pricey for food we had would be only criticism, but quality was superb so happy to pay that bit more. Would return.

My wife and I have had lunch here a few times both on a Sunday and during the week. The food served is quite delicious and is clearly freshly prepared as if home cooked. The roast potatoes are real roasties, no quick fried rubbish! It is truly a very friendly place, also welcoming dogs inside which is a real bonus... More

Delighted to find this pub has reopened following a fire. I had heard it was back uyp and running so went there with a small walking group yesterday for lunch. Delighted to see Isobal and her husband back in control and producing the goods once more. There is a small menu but don't let that fool you as portion sizes... More

We live in King's Somborne and have walked past the pub several times during it refurbishment so thought we'd give it a try. Came here for a meal on Friday evening with my wife and my dad. The pub is tiny but recently refurbished and is warm and inviting. We received a friendly welcome and shown to our table. The... More
