A 2 hour drive to meet up with some old friends was well worth the effort. An excellent pub restaurant with very good food and service. The steak and ale pies were especially tasty

My husband and I were visiting Romsey and I absolutely had to go to the White horse as my dad and my brother used to play cricket in the field behind the pub when I was growing up. We visited the White horse a couple...More

After a somewhat sleepless night flying to London, then driving to Southampton, we were hoping to find a good meal. Our hotel, The Potters Heron, suggested a short walk to the village of Ampfield to check out a couple of options. The White Horse looked...More

Whilst touring in the area 4 of us called for a drink on a sunday evening. Very quiet didn't see any food being served but we had a lovely pint of Guiness. Real Olde world pub. Recommended

We visited on Saturday night and what a warm welcome we received. A nice traditional pub with roaring open fire (in the winter, obviously) and a lovely sleepy cat on the sofa. The Waiter was very friendly, funny and chatty and offered us a great...More

We visited for Sunday lunch, opting for roast beef. This came with many vegetables - unusual to get so many but all were very well cooked with a bit of crunch. The beef itself was OK - I like mine very rare but I don't...More

We have been coming here for years, as food, ambiance and service is great. However, we have been put off coming here for a special occasion for a couple of years now because of the decor. This sounds a bit churlish, but the interior is...More

Description
Parts of the ancient building of the White Horse date back to the 16th century, and the two large Inglenook open fires bear testament to their heritage with their smoking chambers and their priest hole. These fires which are always alight during the winter months throw their heat into the various bar areas. The locals bar, with its dart board, and cosy village atmosphere retains the typical English pub image. Roaring log fire, the slap of cards on the table during a crib match and the thump of darts in the board, echo quietly in this bar. No background music can be heard, just the agitated discussions of the village elders who frequent this oasis of good beer & conversation. The lounge bar, with its equally large Inglenook can accommodate up to 40 people sitting and many more standing. Used by many people as a dining area, it still retains its “Olde World Charm”. A comfortable Chesterfield and deep farmhouse chairs merely add to the pleasant ambience of this lovely area. The restaurant has been built in a new area that extends towards the lovely pub garden. Seating 90 customers it makes a perfect place to enjoy the excellent food that is always available.
